Approved Scheme - 30 day exchange

My first post as a newbie so be gentle with me...
Just bought a 3 month old Leon 2.0 TDI Stylance DSG with 3k on clock from a Seat dealer and for various reasons I won't go into right now, I am considering using the 30 day 'no quibble' exchange option under the Approved car scheme.
I notice the small print mentions 'subject to dealer t&cs..' and not wanting to contact the dealer just yet I wondered whether anyone else reading this can confirm the basic t&c's of the 30 day exchange policy (as still waiting for the paperwork) and maybe any experiences of somebody that has used this option before.

I can't imagine dealers will welcome you with open arms when you bring a car back but wondered whether an exchange for a new car order rather than a used swap would be allowed...?
Also are you likely to be limited to an exchange for one of their own used stock or would they be able to source a suitable Seat approved car from other dealers...?
I appreciate the answers will depend on the dealer in question but worth asking...

I didn't purchase my current Seat from a Seat dealer, but I did purchase my last one from one - so assuming the T&Cs haven't changed, they are - and I quote:

1. Subject to the following terms any SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car purchased from a SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer may be exchanged for another vehicle at the same Dealer provided that:

a) The SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car is returned to that SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer within 30 days of the original delivery date.

b) The Customer must be a private purchaser and not a trade purchaser or otherwise.

c) The SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car has not been driven for more than 1500 miles since original delivery to the customer.

d) The SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer at their own discretion is satisfied that the Customer owns the SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car and is fully entitled to exchange it under this agreement.


2. The Customer may choose any vehicle as the replacement vehicle provided that:

a) It is of equal price to the original SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car.

b) It is readily available from the SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer stock.


3. Before any exchange is effected under this agreement the SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer will use reasonable endeavours to assist the Customer in terminating or transferring financing arrangements relating to the Purchase of the exchanged SEAR Dealer Approved Used Car. The SEAT Approved Used Car Dealer will reimburse the Customer for any reasonable charges directly resulting from the exchange.


4. Where the Customer wishes to exchange a SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car for a replacement vehicle with a higher price, the Customer must pay to the Dealer the difference in price.


5. The Customer will be responsible for any additional costs incurred in the exchange relating to licensing and insurance.

6. This agrement applies only to the SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car with the registration number ????????


7. Excludes special offer details at the discretion of the Dealer.

The replacement SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car may be replaced provided that:

a) The Customer has reasonable cause to be dissatisfied with the quality or reliability of the SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car.

b) The SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car Dealer has been given fair and reasonable opportunity to rectify any faults or defects which affect the quality or reliability of the replacement SEAT Dealer Approved Used Car, and has failed to rectify those faults to a reasonable standard.

c) If a further vehicle is required to be replaced under this scheme, the terms and conditions as set out above will apply to the subsequent exchange.


8. This agreement does not affect your statutory rights of purchase.

Sounds pretty much as I suspected with only difference now maybe being the 'unlimited mileage' under current scheme instead of the 1500 mile limit mentioned in your reply...

Would appreciate hearing from somebody that may have used the exchange scheme for their experiences...

What's the problem?

It's nothing really major to be honest Deev...just a combination of things that have knocked our confidence in keeping the car...so at risking of boring you with the details...

Firstly, a couple of miles after driving the car away from the dealer we went to fill up with diesel and while standing by the filler I noticed a small but nasty 'ding' on the top edge of the tailgate 'spoiler', which was down to the metal.
It was too late to return to the dealers that evening, so after a restless night worrying the damage would be denied by the dealer, we contacted them next morning and he said he also did not notice the damage but that they would put it right and to bring it back for him to assess - relief.
Next morning we then had a problem with the DSG gear selector display on the dash MFD - As soon as you moved the lever from 'P' all the gear letters on the dash flashed on/off, and although the gearbox seemed to be working ok the display kept flashing and didn't show the gear number selected.
We were assured, as there were no other warning lights, that it would be safe to drive it to the dealers to be checked out same day, and to their Service departments' credit they sorted it - a courtesy car and 3 hours later.
The problem was apparently a loose connection behind the ignition cowling and it's been fine since.
As far as the tailgate damage was concerned, the dealer thought it was likely caused during delivery by the original transporter, and that it would need filling and whole top edge of tailgate painting - so a 2 day job with another courtesy car.
Finally the only other 'issue' that bugs me was that initially we were told the car was Delphin Grey (our No.1 choice) but that it was off-site and they would get it into dealers for us to test drive. However, when we saw it I was surpised as it looked a lot lighter than Delphin Grey does in the brochure (nearer to silver in fact) but he said the brochure colours were never that accurate.
More importantly, as the car was the DSG model and had most options we were looking for, i.e. Blueteeth, Con pack, 17" alloys, we decided to do the deal and drive-away same day. However, after checking the Seat web site, I'm convinced we have a Brisa Blue car
It was obviously our choice to go ahead with the sale, but the colour's not growing on me after a week now and still left with the prospect of returning it for minor body repairs/painting (do they ever match metallics spot on..?) the question of exchange looms large...
Having said all of the above it is still a cracking car to drive and we're confident we've picked the right model, just maybe not this particular car...

Its probably worth trying to suss out the colour before taking it further, to see if the dealer is right.

You could post a photo (with the reg no obscured) on here and I'm sure somebody will tell you what colour it is.

or you could log onto the DVLA website and do a search on your reg no. to see if its comes up blue or grey. The link is below and click on the vehicle enquiry option:

You could post a photo (with the reg no obscured) on here and I'm sure somebody will tell you what colour it is.

Phil - It comes up as 'Grey' on DVLA records but is definitely not the Delphin or Zenith grey colours from the Seat online configurator. Brisa Blue is the nearest colour on there to what we have and it looks nearer to Luna Grey (silver) than Delphin (mid-grey)

My brochure (pre MY08) has an Arame Grey, could that be it?

Looks to me to be a similar darkness to Brisa Blue.

I'm not sure what colour it is, but then again I'm no expert.

It does seem a lot different to Delphin grey on the website though.

You mention the dealer saying the brochure colours were never that accurate. I though that they are normally good enough to give a pretty good indication of what the colour is. I've never seen them that far off before.

It also might be worth you trying to find out how the paint code system works and trying to suss out the colour from there. Or have a look at other cars the dealer has in stock and see if they have another Delphin Grey to compare against...

Now I'm really confused as this looks the same colour as ours, albeit slightly darker probably due to the light as you say Phil...
This one on the same site is also very similar but is Lluvia Blue apparently..

But no way any of these are close to the Delphin Grey on Seat's site. I will probably take Rampage's advice and pay a trip to Halfords to confirm what colour we have - where do you find the paint code on the car...?

I seem to remember the dealer saying something about Delphin Grey being a new colour when the 57 plates came out...I only have an older brochure I think so don't know if anyone can confirm whether that's true...

Bottom line regardless of what colour it turns out to be, we still need to be happy with the whole package so I may still have a word with the dealer regarding exchange and see what options we have. Can't say I'll be too happy having body repairs/paint job done on a 3/4 month old car to be honest...
