usuall things id look for are boost leaks = whistling under load ,

fresh oil , fuel n oil filters , maybe a additive like millers pro plus , good dielsel being used , try a tank or two of ultimate BP to flush it out

Have listened for leaks, get a whistle, but it turbo at 1600-2200rpm area, usually hear it better when engine cold. Midway through service interval, but have a filter sitting, might change oil to see, use millers dsp4 and diesel seems good, but no way of knowing that. Nothing like BP ultimate etc.

Googies,

43 mpg is the worst I have ever gotten over a 450 mile tank (overflowing to overflowing, so exact fuel volume measued accurately !) and that is moving swiftly over poor country roads and a bit of rush hour congestion also. Averaged 48 mpg last year on french motorways at steady 130 kph fully laden with aircon on. 35 mpg is awful unless you are driving like the stig continously...are you seeing a lot of black smoke at the rear end / soot on the rear bumper by any chance ? sounds like it's running rich and heavy fueling....so long as you dont have sticking brakes, soft tyres, any of the classic economy crushers.

I dont drive like the stig, the odd blast yes but normal day to driving, same as yourself there. I did notice on a trailer there was a black area never had before on the front of the trailer, soot. hard to see if it smoking much while driving being low down and all that, i have a tail trim on and it puts any fumes past the bumper so cant tell there, trim does get black on inside.
Normal tyres, rear brakes are worn, fronts dont seembad and no noise from brakes while moving.
