I was looking at Altea related stuff on the net before and came across this picture...

20060824-2007-seat-altea-xl-dashboard.jpg

This shows an Altea with a MK5 Golf style Driver Information System (DIS) Screen on the dash with the fuel and temp gauge.
Is this a new thing on the Altea? Mine only has the 9n Polo Sport style computer.

I have used the Golf DIS and its really good.
Is there any way i would be able to covert mine to this new style one?

Many Thanks

Chris

The larger DIS screen came with the Bluetooth option.

When I bought my XL the Bluetooth wasn't available as they now fit the Tomtom wiring instead.[:@]

That's right. If you have the bluetooth option than you also have the larger DIS screen. I have it in my Altea FR also, looks absolutely great :funk: Also you can setup a few things you otherwise have to contact your dealer. For example I can setup the time the cominghome lights are on, also the max speed if wintertires are fitted etc.

Stop rubbing it in:cry:

I have Tomtom wiring that I neither use nor wanted.:(

so could i DIY fit this?
The good news: YES, you can ....

The bad news: it'll cost you at least 600 Euros (in germany) just for the instrument panel ... which additionally has to be adapted via OBD (immobilizer, keys, milage, service etc.) ... and that's still without BT-box, just for the nicer display.

My point of view
... as I was certain in the beginning, that I'm lacking the large display as well, because my dealer didn't know the difference when it came to ordering the headunit (in my case I decided on CD2+MP3, not knowing that CD3 has BT+large display ... (btw. I'm almost certain, dealer had never recognized that large MFD before):

Sure you'll find the additional setting of options and the permanent clock pretty useful ... until you found your optimal setup for lights (e.g. coming home/leaving home lighting times) and so on ... and you never touch them again.
On the other hand, by now I find my small MFD much more elegant and less bright shining (and disturbing) at nights.

greets ... Klaus

Well I was right about the bluetooth.... remember guys the build quality is much better in the first cars off the production line :). LOL.

I managed not to know when my tyres are flat and such luxuries as heated wipers, Tom Tom support and Blue Tooth, nor winter packs summer packs etc, seat heated and so forth, but did get the compartments in the boot, the net, the engine cover etc. Everybody gets the crap speakers, so.... oh and we all seem to get mould in the bonnet lining and the windscreen going. May have weakened my build quality line.

I think the DIS cluster would have its own controller that can talk to VAG-COM.. But you would have to check

Hi googies,

did I get you right, that you are wondering, whether your so to speak "basic" instrument display (which has just the steady -temp-/-total milage-/-daily milage- figures + occasionally inspection/ice warning etc.) can be transformed by ECU-coding to the "small multi function display" (MFD)??

Answer then will be NO.

You would have to change the whole instrument panel (just like the idea above: small MFD => large MFD) and, additionally, would need the control switch (within wiper's stalk) to toggle between the figures and the two storage containers [1] + [2] within the display.

I assume that the controllers are coming with(in) the different instrument panel and you don't need to fit other car's ECUs ... as ABS unit is delivering most of the needed signals for measuring and cumulating speed and distances (afaik).
