Abit concerned, car give alot of smoke on cold start, it smells like oil:confused:
it only does when the engine dead cold and when leave it idle. but if you drive it staright away, its ok and the rest of the day its normal. The oil levels are ok (80% of dipstick). The car pulls well, cant see any smoke on full boost

Any suggestions?

blocked pipe? something to do with cold cycle?

usually oil burning worsens as the car gets hotter? does it smoke for long?

keep an eye on your oil levels

my head problems sound totally oppersite to your issues. cold start always ran clear. it was restarting with a warm engine that smoked.
idle was fine unless left 10mins then a puff when pulling away..

its it run everyday? valve shrinkage? are things expanding as the engine warms up... and sealing?

id deffo check breather pipes. not sure how the cold start really works but im certain it can cause smoking via a blocked pipe

Is that the pipe that comes of the engine block witha split then stick on to the air intake?

mine turned out to be a knacked valve. ran it for 3 years like it, just a puff of smoke when you turned on with a warm engine. 18 months of that was mapped to 240 so it did ok. it only got worse when ihi hit it and within a year i was loosing oil.

all sorted now by basically having the head rebuilt..

so really until it went daft power wise it seemed to do ok with no real oil loss.

so worthwhile living with yours unless it worsens or develops.

What works out better? engine rebuild or a simple replacement engine?

rebuild prob mind you a new engine from seat is 1800 plus vat

Drove it again staraight away for few mines, then let idle for 20 mins, still no smoke.

If it does get worser may do full rebuild with a turbo to go with it, al though the car just past its 100k mark :D
