Dog Bone Mounts!!

right im going to order one, but which one to go for. I know its the kind of question that has personal preferences but i think im going to go for the powerflex ones only cos they are the first ones i spotted and the price of under £16 i think is the most reasonable, but anyone who thinks that a different one is better please let me know.

Just worked my dogbone mount today. Used the Powerflex kit of two polyurethane bushes

Upon removing the old rubber bushes from the mount, the large one was almost torn in the middle and soft as toffee, the small one (front side) intact.

I've used the large polyurethane bush and the smaller OEM rubber bush, as there were some horror stories with vibration when using full poly mount, and the Powerflex "small" bush was almost twice the thickness of the OEM. Greased very well with the grease included in the kit

+ Wheel hop has disappeared altogether
+ Wheelspin has been slightly reduced
+ Acceleration has very slightly improved, but it may be an illusion
+ Gear change much smoother on downshifting, almost unchanged on upshifting
+ The feel of engine rocking back and forth (I've felt it would come over the dashboard sometimes) has disappeared
+ Surprisingly, engine starts quicker! :confused: the starter motor cranked for about 2 seconds previously, now it starts in half a second. May be also an illusion

- Steering wheel vibrates slightly at idle. It's not harsh, it can be felt just in the wheel, not dashboard. Slightly above current idle (let's say around 800 rpm) the vibration disappears altogether

+/- The clutch should no longer be slipped as I've done during the previous 2 1/2 years... if I try to slip it slowly, it rattles. If I release the clutch quicker, it's fine, no vibration, nu judder, no problem at all.

These being said, I expect some improvement as the bushings settle. If not, the idle speed will be raised to about 800 rpm via VAG-COM

Hmm i've had this rattling clutch when i'm 'gentle' with it. I raised the idle speed to 955rpm and have been a bit more savage with the clutch, tickover rattles have gone and the clutch feels smoother - thanks for confirming that.

has anyone tried finding an oe upgrade for lcr? ie are there any of the factory mounts from one of the diesels that will give more stability without as much vibration?

im interested to know so will investigate today if poss, hpoefully my friendly dealer will help.

if anyone already knows alternatives without bush adding like forge etc i would love to know. :D

Go for it mate. You'll worry a bit when you first fire the car up as your dashboard will probably shake :headhurt: but give it a good few hundered miles and you'll be more than happy with it. Even my wife's said it drives better :D

I only had vibration problems with my dog bone bush when I first put it in.....then I took it off and realised I was a muppet and put the bushes in the wrong way round! ....changed it and it was instantly amazing!

if anyone does a search then you'll find my old thread on here somewhere

Drove the Leon today on snow and muddy road - it appears wheel spin and skidding have slightly diminished as well after the fitment of dogbone bushes

There was a guide from Neuspeed around, but it's pretty simple anyway, once the car is on ramps is a 15 minute job (5 bolts to unscrew)

I cant beleive theres so many people with problems or complaining about the dogbone mounts....:p

The only one worth buying is the Powerflex one at about £16 plus vat, absolute bargain imo my car doesent vibrate like people have said:confused: maybe they never applied the grease supplied in with the kit! I know for a fact this makes a big difference actually.
