I looked at a Golf GTi and agree that you're looking at £4K to £5K more for the same spec. Even the Ed 30 isn't as powerful as the Cupra.

I also though the supply of the Mini was limited due to production being a maximum capacity for the plant. Something which was supposed to be rectified with the mark 3.

The Mini and the Cupra aren't in the same league. My choice was between Mini Cooper S, Golf GTi (as I was told in May the Ed 30 was no longer available ?) and the Cupra. My signature speaks for itself which is the better car :D

Oh and the wait for a Cupra was at the time longer than a Mini Cooper S from the factory...

Yep, and the dealers don't help.

When I was looking round, went to the local dealer and they did their best to discourage me from getting a Cupra. It was "Are you sure you don't want an FR?, can get you one almost any colour or spec straight away".

Only when they knew I was serious did they happen to have one in black with iPod connector quicker than the 12 week factory build (that was at 2 different dealers but they weren't the same car). I did compromise on the Convenience Pack in the end as I didn't originally want it but glad that I got it.

At the time I collected my Cupra (in July) I was told no more were available until x-mas, but loads of people on here have got one no problem.

I think its because if seat over produced and released too many cupra models for uk it would flood the market, this would then leave seat with the problem of supply out stripping demand, seat would then offer "special deals"on model to intice people to buy which then devalues the model and also affects second hand value of the cars previously sold, dealers would also have more leaway on knocking a bit more off to get the deal, then its a slippery slope.

So the cupra really is better than the golf?....Im a LCR MK1 owner and have looked at getting the new LCR....my wife has an Altea....nice car but Im really not convinced about the build quality over the MK5 golf compared with the Altea, Mk2 LCR etc...theres way too much cheap squeeky rattley plastics...maybe Im biassed as I had a golf before the LCR but given this latest hike in prices...Im thinking my next motor isnt going to be a Seat.....

Near Reevo :)
I wouldn't mind paying the prices for the Seats, if the dealers were as good as other dealers..

Compare the Cupra against others in its class/ price bracket. Now compare the dealers....... Seats near the bottom right??

Such a shame really that you pay all that money and get **** from them.

The Golf GTi (never drove the Ed 30) was a good car but for the money didn't feel special. Driving the FR had a wow factor over the Golf and the Cupra is that bit better than the FR.

Just been on the VW website and the starting price is £20,815 for the 3 door GTi and £22,545 for the Ed 30. Looks like VW also raised prices yesterday.

It does look like the spec on the GTi may have been upped though from what I can remember when I looked at one. Still expensive to bring it up to the same spec as a Cupra though.

I found my dealer terrible when I bought the car, but recently the aftersales has been superb.

They spent a day fixing the rattles and were happy to do the work without quibbling...

Wow, now i'm extra happy that I paid 2007 prices for her, and with discount too! If I was to buy one at todays prices, I would prolly just go for a Golf GTI now, as it's not much more, and has the better image (sorry guys, but it does!).

It does mean that it looks overpriced now tho, so maybe it will only attract the very serious buyer who is hell bent on wanting one?

bit confused i have just been on the seat web site and it says price for standard car at £19495 and £870 for the xenons which is different to what smiler-MK2 has found!!
Anyway the dealer told me about the changes last month and wanted an extra £500 for the xenons foe the cupra i ordered in november. Told them to cancel the order then, but they came back and agreed to leave the car at the same price... great.
Cant wait now as told them to keep car til march as they said cars where coming through around feb.

Candy white, ipod, blue, convenience, XENONS, side skirts and centre console £19750!! just waiting for another call to say its going up.

Question: Are they charging for the xenons because they move round they corner with you? AKA bmw

if you ordered the car in november the car should have been price protected so there would be no extra cost to you or the dealer

on the cupra microsite the fog lights appear to be xenon, surely they aren't?
do the xenon lights move when you turn the steering wheel like the bmw's?
