i had an 05 civic sport and that felt horrible of the line even with 115 bhp!!but ive never had a fwd car sideways as much!!!ultimate lift off oversteer!great cars to throw around just not as driveable as the cupras!!torque more than anything.new type r isnt as fast as the last.fact.

they sound great with a filter on too!!no turbo tho is it!!

ben id have to agree.there aint much between them,do think the leon is a nicer place to sit tho.

The new CTR are slow, my mate blew them in his starlet 1.3GT, after 3 runs. The driver was gutted, the older ctr are faster as ithink they slighly lighter.

quick little things they are!! had me worried many times!!

id rather have the clap than a startlet tho!!!

Im having trouble my self some times, once they are boosted, they can lick many cars of the road, people get shocked when they find it was a 1.3 engine

For what it's worth, I raced a stock '55' plate Civic type R about 14 months ago as hard as I ever raced anything....

In a straight line I really left it behind, but on the twisty turny bits he really clawed a great deal back each time. However, I should point out I am not a particularly skilled driver and may have been giving something away here!

So overall, I was able to keep ahead the whole way (2.5 miles), but my LCR was running at about 265 hp at the time (no suspension or other handling mods mind), so I doubt a standard LCR could have been anything more than equal to a Civic R overall. The road was a little wet too which (may) have been a leveller.

This may annoy people - but I believe the stock cars are pretty much equal!

The Honda handles better on corners or bends but loses out in a straight line - as most people find.

So in the REAL world the two are basically the same - unless you are just drag racing - in which case it is always the LCR.

Was about bang on till this last bit.. :D A standard LCR WILL NOT out drag a standard CTR.. If anything it'll be the other way round if both drivers are equal. But they rarely are, which is why the results of the two always vary..

Well I've never raced one when my car was just 'stock'. So I suppose I'm not really in a position to argue against that then!

Just done some research (always a good idea) and the Honda is reported as being 0-62 mph in 6.8s and it's 6.9s for an LCR - so I would guess the extra weight of the Leon must be slowing it down some. I expect a standing start might also see more wheelspin form the Seat if you're not careful which wouldn't help matters either.

Just done some research

Do some more!
Type R is 6.4 to 60!
Your Type R figures are out!
Not even an Anniversary with AC was that slow to 60!
And if you think a Leon is bad for traction of the line then drive a Type R!
Wish this arguement would go to bed! Civic Type R is faster up a strip, round a track and on the B roads than a standard LCR! Top Top end the Leon pulls a bit, only a bit!

0-60 figures will always vary a bit in different mags. But mid 6's is about right. 0-60 means fook all anyway IMO.. 0-100 is the better indicator, to which the CTR does in 16.0/16.2 in Steve Sutcliffe hands (Autocar)..

Agree with 0-100,or even 30-100 which is the speed range you are most likely to use,0-60 looks good on paper but thats all,i think to achieve the 0-60 figures that manufacters quote you have to be very good at 0-60 runs and also very harsh to the car.

A stock LCR is a quick car. If you look in the back of Evo magazine they time various cars round the Bedford Autodrome and the LCR did exceptionally well, beating the majority of rivals (Clio Trophy, Mk5 Gti etc.)

The problem with the standard car isn't really in it's out and out performance but more so the confidence it gives the driver. While it has nice, 'quick' damping, it lacks roll resistance which gives that rolly polly feel that saps confidence from the driver when pushing hard. I know I've banged on about this a few times but with a few mods the LCR can be a superb driver's car. Namely, adjustable roll bars, extra bracing and a decent set of rubber. These mods will absolutely transform the car, the roll bars will give the much needed roll resistance and push the natural balance away from understeer, the bracing will sharpen up turn-in considerably and some decent rubber will give a healthy improvement across the board. Combine this with a remap and I guarantee any stock hot hatch, CTR included, is going to have a seriously tough time keeping up.

The only downside is, you'll end up with a car with pretty high limits which isn't as wonderful as it may sound. Your confidence pushing the car will go up tenfold and obviously, so will the speed.

Nice post, speedsix. Good points, well made.

Know what'd be awesome? If this thread was left dead and buried now. Essentially, it has come down to personal preference. The boost-heavy LCR with plenty of tuning options or the high-revving, VTEC powered naturally aspirated CTR, a hardcore hot-hatch.. genre defining, to say the least. It's all about personal preference.. money no object, we'd all be driving carbon-fibre twin-turbo V8s.. at which point, both the LCR and CTR would be left for dead.. so why mull over the same facts time and time again, I wonder.

Tuning the CTR is expensive and isn't as rewarding, in terms of performance gains as any turbocharged car with a remappable ECU. Fact.
