Hello all,

I am so so so annoyed with my car now, the light has come on again to make this the 9th time now! The car is only just two months old with 4k on the clock, the driving is a lot of motorway and a/b roads but I am trying to drive on the motorway in fifth a bit so its above 2.5k to try and prevent the light coming on but it still does.

Am I doing something wrong here? Every time the light comes on it clears with a good blast up the motorway in forth for about 6-8 miles. I really can't be doing with this every couple of weeks. I love the car to bits but I have had enough now. I haven't take it to the dealers yet but I don't hold much faith with them on this issue so haven't rushed it but it really is starting to pee me off big time.

I really am starting to wish I stuck with petrol now as the little mpg more I am getting over my old cupra I don't think is really worth it. I will see what the dealer says about it but I am also going to talk to my work to see if I can possibly change the car for a petrol one.

I will post up what the dealer says.

Rant over!
Si

just drive it hard, and it'll never come on..... when was the last time you nailed it into the red-line (say 4.8 - 5K)? in 2nd or 3rd?

Thats how its been for me, sure the fuel comsumption isn't great when you drive it like that all the time, but it sure is fun :D

I really think I drive it hard all the time but the dam thing still comes on. As far as the fuel consumption goes with the price of derv at the min anyway I don't think I would be that much worse of with a petrol.

Just really hacked off with it at the min.

Cheers

Dpf

You should not have to drive the car hard to stop this happening it should not come on ever unless there is a fault,We have an altea fitted with a dpf and that has never come on.

I have seen quite a few posts regarding problems with 170 dpf on VW and Audis so it seems like VW have not got that engine 100% correct to work with the DPF.

I would let them have it back and get a Cupra instead.

I have to agreee with you, you should not have to drive it that hard all the time. I thought that if you didn't use the motorway that much it changed something with the fuel to regenerate itself??

Something isn't right because basically you can't have one of these if you just drive to and from work around 20-30 miles a day. Thats wrong

i have not had it on yet, done just over 2k now, no motorways up here so can`t drive on one *lol* I do give it beans now and again though and think that helps, last time I filled it up it seemed to use the first 1/4 tank pretty quick so I reckon it was regenerating ? I reckon you must have a fault with it ...

I really do give it beans all the time so I think there must be a fault but I can't be arsed with all the hassle with trying to prove it etc without makling the car go in to limp mode and it end up costing £1000 for a new filter......

I have the Leon FR my better half has the Altea FR, both with the 170 DPF engine.
I do a round trip of 60 miles a day, open roads so give it a bit of welly, my wife drives into Nottingham city centre and back every day, about 20 miles or so, but she is stuck in traffic both ways doing 30mph if she is lucky.
Up to press we haven't had a problem with either car and both are driven completely differently hers 2 years, mine 1 year.
So maybe you have got a problem that the stealers should look at, did you get the Seat leaflet about the DPF from your stealer?

Yet another thread on DPF problems :( .

They must get this problem resolved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RPM

but see how many people don`t have a problem ?? I don`t think it is a huge issue, a forum like this is where people with a problem are going to try and find a solution. If you look at the poll thread there is only 1 person who has had an unresolved problem ...

I do see what you mean but something isn't right in a fair few cars so there is a problem somwhere which needs to be looked at. Also the way that they take no responsibility for it isn't right either!!

I have just got off the phone to my local dealer and they wont even allow me to book the car in as currently the light isn't on and there is nothing they can look at. This is my exact point I was trying to make earlier about trying to explain and get the dealer to help about it without it costing the money by making it go into limp mode. I just dont know what to do, all they said was you have to follow the book when the light comes on which I do and it always goes out but I have to go out of my way everytime it comes on to clear the damm thing!!

GRRRR I am so annoyed!

voice your fustrations on the sticky vote on the poll.... as for me I'm changing to petrol. Though in the interim have had the light on few times already... seems to be the opposite of driving it hard. You need to drive it not hard if you are doing short journeys, and to drive it at constant speed around and above the 2500 rpm. The extra welly seems to created extra soot that the DPF can't burn off in time... don't take my observations for law though.

Sounds like you should try a different stealer, any fault lights that come on will create a record in the cars memory which can be retrieved and studied by a stealer. That is fact.

Check out the Audi web sites like this there have been many problems with some of the sensors which have a batch problem [5 types] on the DPF - you may have a duff one, and if your not happy with the stealers I would suggest you change to a more compedent one and who knows how to deal with electronics systems co's its suprising how many do not despite the certificate in the workshop wall that says they do ??!!!!
