rear diff oil for the torques approtioning rear axle (AYC) in an evo only needs to be changed every 4.5k miles if you go sideways all the time. do mine at 25k and its virgin.

better still get one of the RS cars with mechanical LSD - takes more abuse and interferes less with driving.

ultimately its about choice & budget. try a scoob - but you may be dissapointed with lack of mid range torque - i was and went for an evo - but the 180hp VAG engine was not far behind the evo and streets ahead of the scoob.

for sure an evo has more tuning potential than almost anything bar a skyline - but they are not discreet (although a tuned 260 (small spoiler) has a certain appeal!).

I had a MY99 UK Impreza Turbo which was tweaked. At this time of year it would piss all over any front drive hatch. End of story. In the summer, it would take a very quick front drive hatch to come close.

Remember that when you are comparing an STi with a remapped LCR, you are not comparing apples with apples. An STi will tune up as well and thereafter trounce a tuned LCR.

What is the budget of the original poster? That will surely play the biggest part in what would be the best way for his hard earned to be spent.

By the way, to add another option which was touched on above, a MK2 Leon Cupra can go to 320bhp with only a filter, full exhaust and remap. Only snag is at this time of year, first and second gears are a waste of time.

With all due respect UK classics are not that quick at all. A 170bhp clio will keep pace with it 30-100. You being a regular at crail should know this ;)

Cliosport is hardly a very quick FWD hatch.

Oh, i am an ex scooby owner aswell ;)

Not much difference between mapped LCR or mapped cupra either. This 1 has been done before :D;)

O.P have a look at the E46 M3 :D

A tuned up subaru will have alot more transmission losses, subaru tunned to 300hp will run same wheel power as LCR tunned to 270hp.4wd helps this time of year when roads are greasy from salt but during spring/summer when roads are dry dont think it makes any difference, especially if you have a limited slip diff fitted.Subaru impreza's are well over rated

Deleted that post by accident Moff....Oops:doh:

Basically saying an imprezas brutal acceleration in the high pull 1st 2 gears, gives a false impression of its overall performance, even if 3rd/4th and 5th are nothing special. People only remember the wow factor, and the brutal acceleration of an impreza in 1st 2 gears, does give you a wow factor. In a fwd car, you dont get this impression.

Impreza wrx or sti engines sound nice but they all look the same with big wings and silly pink letters stuck everywere, yeh they are 0-60 kings but who drives like that all day,i imagine the 330 bhp + sti models are very quick but then so would a ihi LCR pushing big power, went out in a S3 other week which is pushing over 410hp,beleive me i dont think it would have been bothered by any type of subaru!oh my god.:-o
