A modded wrx or sti wouldnt leave a mapped LCR because you have to consider bigger transmission losses with 4wd,like mitchy said sti with ppp looking at around 300 hp but around 240 wheel power which puts it in mapped LCR ground.Personally i think 4wd only helps 0-60 or if its wet and cold like now.I found that most scoobies ive seen or come across sound loud with a big exhaust and thats about it,they arnt that special or any faster

0ne thing to consider buying a scooby over a well sorted lcr ,i had an 04 wrx world rally blue all the toys everywhere i went shopping and the such like ,nervouse wreck ,look at them scroats eyein my motor came to mind a lot and remains the only reason i got rid and bourght an lcr ,paranoia maybe ,but i dont worry so much as most dont know the capabilites of a remapped lcr ,sorry to drone on but it is certainly something to consider.

Take a test drive in a new Leon Cupra. You might be quite surprised. Mileage is also very very good with the FSI. I know the new shape is not as mean as the Mk1, however the chassis quite adept at putting power down onto the black stuff.

Agreed that the "normal" level imprezas (including the sti) are not a significant step up from an LCR - more fun though! (IMHO)

In your situation I would be looking for a bigger leap up. Still since you have raised the question

Cons:

If you live or spend any large amount of time a dodgy area then dont do it - you'd spend all your time worrying about it and your blood pressure will go through the roof!

If you havent got a healthy petrol budget (and a decent source of 99ron) then don't do it - they can be driven economically-ish but when you are having fun then they will drink it!

Image problem - ignorant people will label you a boy racer or as someone here put it "scum" because of what you drive. People who know what they are talking about will recognise it for what it is though!. You will also loose all stealth factor - every man and his dog will try it on.

Pros:

If you live in a slightly more rural area or have a lot of bad weather you'll wonder how you ever survived without AWD - a re-mapped LCR might have more power at the wheels but if it cant get down whats the use? I live in the lake district and I would hate to have something powerful 2WD, just wouldnt have the confidence in it!

If you want to mod extensively then the scooby chassis and drivetrain is a great place to start.

The noise - sorry but I love that flat four burble!

Seats - unless you have the Recaros in the LCR the scooby seats knock them out the park!

Image - you are more likely to get someone begging for a passenger ride :)

Tyres - you might have to replace all 4 at once but you'll do that less frequently then changing the front two on the LCR.

Cliosports and civics are often showing classic imprezas a pair of heels:doh:

:wtf: Might be happening to the badged up sports, poor condition cars and people who cant drive maybe but I've never had problems with cliosports or CTRs even when stock and I'm no driving god!

If you want excitement from a car, you need to go for RWD, not 4WD. I'd go for a Jap rear drive car or a 3 series (the Jap cars would be more thrilling). Far more satisfying than front or four wheel drive.

for the record on my evo 6 TME
i get 26-28 mpg on a run
tyres last 25k miles (mainly motorway use) and cost £350 for a set (toyo T1-r)
i change the oil every 10 k miles
clutches life depends on usage - previous AP organic lasted 4 years
brakes are expensive - get through a set of disks & pads every 30k - rears about 50k.

so personally i dunno if you would find it massively more expensive than a cupra. 4wd only really comes into its own on tight corners or in the wet.

What about diff oil, thought that had to be changed every 3,500 miles or is that just the newer ones.
TBH my useage is almost exactly the same on my LCR. To get that MPG you must be running a big turbo and staying out of boost or driving like a granny

Actually, when I changed from my 200SX to the LC, I didn't really see any noticable change in fuel consumption. The turbo used to cut in a lot later on the SX though (about 3200rpm) so I wasn't on boost as much as I am in the Leon in normal driving.

If you're looking to get a scooby, get the JDM STi as it has the twin scroll turbo on it and then all you have to do is get an ecutek map on it and it will leave a stage 2 mapped LCR for s**t, trust me my brother had one and it was mental.

He now has an Evo V which in his words is much more fun and involved to drive. The Evo is more of a raw car so don't go for one of them if you want any real comfort.

Don't get an Evo IV as in my opinion they are no where near as good as the V's and VI's, the main reason is they don't have Brembo's on them which considering the power and weight isn't a good thing. My mate had an Evo IV and put brembos on it but then he had the problem of finding wheels and even when he got a set that fitted over the caliper the tyres were hitting the arch where he didn't have the arch extensions.

my mate has a scooby. tells me where ever its left there theres a group of kids round it when they return. hes paranoid about owning it.

my leon is basically ignored by all. 750 a year to insure... no extra serviceing

scooby power without the troubles... so far.

and as for scaring yourself..... they dont make production 320bhp fwd cars do they.....;)

yes traction is an issue but some of those guys get very good 0-60s so it can be done with fwd.

chatted to an m5 owner... he said he just plants it and the electronics sort it and he gets 5secs 0-60.

id rather drive mine than let the ecu do it.

this time of year its very easy to get pissed off with the lack of grip ( me too )so 4wd and a good diff wouldnt go a miss but power and weight are all relative and the lc is alot more comfey( even on coilovers ). just a quick question , i get how a 4wd diff works ( sending power to back wheels when needed) but jbs offered me a quarsy (?) diff for 1200 quid but how the hell would that work ( no where else to send the power?) ???

and it will always niggle in the back of ur head that people are lookin at you sayin..."look at that t**t in an impreza" Whereas In an LCR most people are jealous as they're more discreet and look a hell of alot better. And more unassuming if its got a remap.

Just my opinion granted. And that of all my mates.......and family...including my mum....the missus....and the cat.

hi guys, ive had my lcr a year and im afraid im getting bored, dont get me wrong its a great car but it doesnt scare me anymore, any sugestions?a sti springs to mind!

first up i think i know what you mean, you want something which has more of a kick; but a fast car shouldn't scare.

have you had it remapped yet? a simple £300 would see you keep the car for a little longer.
