im in a very similar situation, cant stop thinking about buying a new car but cant really justify the expense when i have a fast, comfortable reliable car.

so im going to start modding the crap out of it in the new year....

Ive changed from a WRX to a LC. I know the WRX aint as fast as an STI but all the same and to be honest its one of the best things ive done, the WRX would have wiped the floor over the LC (speed) but the Seat is a much more descreat car, plus mine was very poor on petrol and unreliable, just my opinion though!!

If your always wanting something that fast that it scares you buy a £2,000 GSXR 750
That'll keep you going for a while.
To be honest the jump between a LCR remapped and an STI is very small.
If you are going to change I'd bet you mod the STI very quickly when you realise it ain't all that. Make sure you keep plenty money aside for insurance, petrol, changing 4 tyres at once, and modding (this will be a bit cheaper than the Leon though)

if you really want an STI and are happy with the running costs then go for it.

if i could afford it i'd be driving one of them

As said I think you'll regret it. You won't find many cars like the LCR that offer performance without the massive running costs that particularly the jap crap cars have.

I must admit I still have an sti-sized itch (ooh err missus) that needs scratching. I fancy running a metallic silver STI with silver wheels and PPP upgrade. Although neighbour has just bought an Evo IV with small wing and spoilers. Very understated but still a nice machine.... Reminds me of the LCR in that it looks like a normal hatchback apart from the large wheels and red brembos. Subtle yet angry at the same time (the Evo, not me!).

STI isnt any quicker than remapped LCR apart from 0-60.4wd giving good traction off the line.Rolling @ 30mph + i dont think there would be any thing in it.Ive thought what could replace LCR which would be faster and al i could really think of which interested me was and evo FQ but i really like what ive got and i am just going to modify it more.

Ive had my Revo,d LCR for over 4 years and this sort of dilemma comes up a few times a year.I dont do many miles in a car and have company van, so i just cant justify loads of extra cash for very little if any gain in performance that an sti could offer.Like others have said i think i'll just keep modding and stay content with a very fast ,comfortable understated sports hatch.

265bhp heavier 4wd:rolleyes:

I think you'll need a better car than that to scare you. Mapped LCR would show it a pair of heels above 30mph. Even a PPP'd car only has 300hp and that aint going to be much quicker if at all either. 4wd tranny losses are quite severe, 300 @ flywheel works out around 220-230 @ wheels. Same figures as mapped K04's

You need to step upto M3 and above IMO.

Dont waste your money on impreza, bad image and to be all that honest nothing special at all nowadays. Cliosports and civics are often showing classic imprezas a pair of heels:doh: Not the car they once used to be im afraid:(

However saying that you do get the WR1/spec C models etc that are a fair bit quicker than the STI versions :)

go to a cheap brothel.. you can have plenty of sti's that scare the crap out of you.

Get you LCR mapped mate it will change your mind about Limprezas :lol:
If you dont want to strech to a full remap yet some companys do a 5 hour trial
its worth a try before buy a car that may not be as fast as you think

good luck mate

I have had my LCR since August 07. Before that I had a MK4 R32. I really miss the traction of 4 wheel drive. I was also considering changing to an 04 or 05 STI. LCR mapped or not spins wheels like nobodies business. Not much fun.

No idea about the STI, but my Leon TDI kept up with a WRX through the twistys, and passed it on a a straight road up hill! I was chuffed to bits as i thought i'd struggle, but i easily passed it.
So if you want a performance car that gets shown up by a diesel, avoid the WRX. ;)

Mate, go and drive one and see what you think. I personally wouldnt have an older model, but the newer ones I decent looking. Yes a remapped LCR may keep up, in a straight line, but through the twisties the Impreza would walk it, unless it was someone who couldnt drive sat at the wheel. Then you can talk about modding too, as a modded scooby would easily beat a modded LCR, imo.

The worst thing will be running costs though. As above, 4 new tyres at a time, plus the fact that it needs an oil change every 3000miles to keep it in top shape. Also you can add in the 20 mpg, or less, figure in to it.
