the car was ticking over nicely, warmin up inside and defrosting the windows.it was around -4c.
But.... when i unlocked the door with the key the alarm LED stayed on,opened the door and the alarm went off!! this was at 5.10am this mornin!!
does anyone know how to sort this,or should i just stay outside with the car frezin my ass off.

Unlock with remote.
Start with spare key.
Lock with main key, but use key in kock, not fob.
Leave to warm up (no allarm)
Unlock with key (or brick) and drive away.

I do this, but where I live people leave houses unlocked and keys in cars!

isn't leaving a TDI idealing even when freezing BBBBAD?? says you should always drive offf slowly!!! just drive with your head out the window like everyone else!! haha! or that small first circle that appears at the bottom of the window or build a garage. I get an old bed sheet rip it in half and cover the front and back windows then drive with the window open.

I used to have a quiet road behind my old house which i could go up and down till the small circle appeared. :)

i had the same problem only the main key deactivates the alarm and not the spare so ye unlock you car with the fob and start the car with you spare and lock it with the fob again and thats it.

some may say lala land....
always let mine idle for approx 60seconds as so much easier to move of the drive and along village to main road. If i pull away straight away she hates it, slow; sluggish; stalls and i'm likely to get hit when join the fast main road if i don't boot it, (not good when cold) - idle all the way for me.

On cars equipped with cat converters you should not let the car idle to warm up or idle for long periods. Its bad for the cat

Never heard that but even if your right which would you rather replace a CAT or a worn engine because you don`t let the oil warm a bit and circulate before driving off.

I think its that manual that says drive off immediately.. I was under the impression that this was because the diesels do not produce heat like a petrol car so the quicker you drive the quicker the temp builds up..

But i found idling the car for 10 mins was enough to defrost very iced windows

Shame I live 10 miles from work, car just gets to temp as I get here.
