Auto wipers

Have just joined the forum so still finding my way around.
I have tried searching but couldn't see anything relating to this but if I have missed a link please point me in the right direction!!

My car is an Altea Stylance TDI(105) which I have had for two years now and so am used to most of its quirks but one thing that puzzles me relates to the wipers.
The car has rain sensing wipers and when in the auto setting they sometimes stop momentarily at the base of the windscreen.

It was only recently I realised this only occurred when you went over 80MPH.

Has anyone else noticed this and if so do you know the reason?

All the altea's and Leons do this as far as i have seen

not 100% sure as to the reason but i assume its just to do with the car thinking cos you are going faster more rain hits your front windscreen ]

Those clever German's that designed the wiper system... Bosch... I can't say that I make a habit of driving at 80 MPH in rain. Perhaps the idea is that at that speed the water runs off the windscreen due to the speed of travel so the blades are put on pause down the bottom.

Its to do with the synchronization of the blades and stopping them colliding into each other. There is a thread about it somewhere.

That is a good point Tell, I can't say that I do either which is why it took me nearly two years to realise that this particular wiper characteristic was speed related. But you know how it is on the motorway ,sometimes you need a quick burst of speed in certain situations.

some people claim its to do with them re-sync'ing but to be honest - imho that's rubbish

if you set the to continuous they don't stop, if you set them to super super super fast they dont stop, so why do they have to sync at intermittent

Personally, its because they are set to intermittent, which is a variable intermittent i.e. the faster you go the quicker they go, so at 80+ they are going as quick as they can but still itermittant, so quick stop at the bottom quick stop at the top.

Correct, mine sync in continuous too.
