Engine Misfire (wasnt my Coil packs!)??

Its been on Diagnostics this afternoon, and it came up with one of the fuel mixtures was too high, and a pressure drop between the turbo and the manifold and said to check valve.

So, good thing we didnt buy the coil packs for nothing (though I know they could be a problem in the future, but will cross that bridge if it happens).

The guy recons it could either be the Turbo on its way, or the airmass meter on its way and messing things about. Said to take it back next time the problem happens and he'll put it straight back on the machine.

Any of you had a similar problem/any of these things go?
We have noticed that the car is making a slight 'wooing' noise at low boost, so potentially could be the turbo I guess. Just had a quick look at the Turbo's on-line, and had rough prices of £350 for a re-con turbo. Just wondering if this is a good price, or whether it can be got cheaper else where.
Also where would be best to buy the other parts if they are needed?

Any suggestions r.e all of this would be great.

Hayley.

misfire can be maf related, spark plug related also, as well as the obvious coilpacks..
check your vac piping also as some are getting a little old and brittle

Fingers crossed next time it goes on diagnostics it'll show up what it is.

Hubby is going to check all of the pipes next time he's home in day light, to check for any splits etc. He had a problem with his A4 TDi not long ago, spent a fortune changing bits but still kept doing it. Turned out to be a split pipe going to the Turbo, couldnt bloody believe it, but at least it was sorted and is now a really reliable car.

I will keep my fingers crossed its something as simple as that, but knowing my luck it'll be the most expensive part. I guess these things just come with the territory, wish I was a simple 1.1 Fiesta girl but unfortunately I like my cars too much!

depending on which dv you have you can take it off.. push the piston inside up with a pencil , block the hole above and remove the pencil... piston should drop a couple of mm then hold until you unblock the hole.
that works on forge dvs.. possibly works on yours? they can get gunked up too. you may have the plastic stock dv... becareful as its a diaphram type and might not like a pencil shoved up it?

if it plays up again... id restart the car with the maf unplugged, if its immeadiatly much better thats your culprit.... but dont drive it around like that as it`ll run rich and damage your cat.

I defo dont reckon its your Turbo, not at this stage anyway. Check all pipe work and the DV.

Was it a vag specialist? Did he give you a copy of the diagnostics, and was it done using vag-com?

Well fingers crossed it isnt, as I think that would be the most expensive repair. Have showed my husband all your responses, so he's going to take a look this week.

Yes the guy is VAG specialist, he's always been really good. I didnt go myself, but my hubby said he had a new diagnostics machine which linked to a laptop, so not sure if it was VAG-com but its defo upto date.

Been out in a car today for a short journey, with over 1hr stop in-between and it behaved itself thank goodness.

Hubby has just confirmed that it was VAG-com that he used, but he didnt give us the fault codes or print out etc. He did it for free and just told hubby what it was saying, and to bring it back next time it happens so he can put it back on the machine.

Think it has a standard dump valve as its not atmospheric, so just assume its standard. If it does turn out to be the DV, would it be worth buying a replacement upgrade rather than standard? If so what one, and how much are we talking? (if you could point me in right direction would be great).

p.s - how would we check the standard (plastic) DV?

and any explanation on what the 'whooing' sound could be from the Turbo at low-boost? Is this normal on LC?
