LCR Catastrophic Engine Failure

Hello Peeps

A sorry weekend... and apparent end to my LCR

It's an 03 210 which has just had its engine go in a big way!!! The LCR is well loved and is only 44K on the clock!
Would seem that there has been a catastrophic failure/malfunction within the engine that's pierced both the front and back... Possible ConRod related incident!

Incident happened @ less than 40mph as was on a slip road approaching lights!

Does anyone have any previous experience like this? Also if someone knows where I can look to find a better price for an engine than the 5 large uttered by the SEAT garage I sent it too?!

Thanks

Im sure there was a 1.8t IHI engine on pistonheads not long back. For much less that 5 big ones. Mighr be worth to have a look on there etc.

Surrey darling...
I'd expect to pick up a used but lowish miles for £1K - £1.5K to be honest... sorry to hear about that happening though! You must be gutted!

Keep us posted if you discover the cause...

Sounds like when Z's went - just a dodgey rod.

luckily all you need is a 'short' engine, which is easily available. and not too dear.

If you're feeling keen it's a straight forward DIY, if not it's not a major garage job (find a local VW specialist, only take it to SEAT with a tube of KY)

What i would suggest is speaking to SEAT customer services, I know the car is out of warranty now, but it is a known fault. At least it was in 2004 when mine blew, so i'd suggest that a car with 44k on the clock if proven to be treated well with a full dealer service history. Should not be spitting it's internals all over the road. Especially as a large number of cars are problem free with double the mileage.

In my opinion if you don't ask, you don't get. They can only say no, see if they'll meet you halfway.

Obviously if the engine/car has been modified its more of a difficult case to argue.
