I'm 19 and have insured my 130bhp tdi for 2 years. This is my second year. Under my parents it's not that bad comparatively. Anything's possible. Plus i've had mine remapped.

I was in the same dilemma about 7 months ago. My mates got a GTTDI mk4 Golf which is 130 bhp and it's in insurance group 13! compared to the 130 Ibiza which is group 7 for the sport... group 8 FR.
I was 19 when i got my Ibiza 130. If im honest it's a great car and a huge improvement to my Peugeot 306 1.4! I pay just over a grand for insurance which i reckons pretty reasonable. Tax is cheap on it and the MPG is really good.
I'd recommend the Ibiza to anyone looking for a fast car thats cheaper to insure than it's rivals.
Plus the Mk4 Golf is sooo common, you can't go down the road without seeing one! Can't say that about the Ibiza

Had mine for a couple years now! got mine when i was 19 with no No Claims! under parents name its a touch over 700 iirc.....

Very true.
As I've commented in the Leon section before. The Leon is more like the Mk4 Golf than the Ibiza is so it tends to be a question that comes up often.
More bang for buck I say is one thing, but the fact that Golfs are so boring and common is another. Not to forget the fact there are very little differences between the 1.4 and the GTI.
They have sorted that out with the Mk5 right enough

I used to have a 2004 1.9 (100bhp) Passat saloon, but decided it was a bit staid, so managed to do almost a straight swap for a 3 months old Ibiza 1.9TDi DAB (100bhp) dealer demonstrator. Same engine in both cars, but in the Seat there is a LOT less bulk to move around, so it does shift. I *really* haven't looked back. It's to have a front strut brace fitted in the new year, along with a remap upto 150bhp.

I done an insurance quote with money supermarket and confused for the 130 ibiza and lowest i got on both was £2,000. I'm currently paying £900 for the VTR under my mums nam - think the vtr is grp 6 or 8 but i really could do with earning some no claims. I'll hunt autotrader again for some more ibiza 130s the sport 130 and the FR are the exact same yea? If so i may aswell get a sport as they are cheaper.
I do agree with the seat you are getting more for your buck

From personal experience a standard 130 will easily out run a VTR, tried many a time.
A mapped 130 will eat VTS's for breakfast,
As nice as the Golf's are, id go for the Newer Ibiza tbh, you will love it, the insurance will be cheaper than your VTR if it was in your name,

Didn't expect them to be as fast as my vtr, remapped one eats a vts? Niiiiceee Need to look at getting funds, get some people interested in my car already :O

The last two have high-ish mileage. The first one has aftermarket wheels, so out of those four I'd have taken the second one anyways.
I wouldn't want to buy a modified car... I like to do it all myself.
When I got mines I wanted a PD130, Yellow, FSSH, No mods and owned by a non-smoker and I got it
