Hey all,

Looking to replace my saxo for a diesel and going to pick the Ibiza 1.9TD or the Golf 1.9TD. What are the seats like to drive? And whats their performance like?I think i would just be getting the 1.9td not sure i can afford the insurance on the 130 model as i'm 19 with 0 no claims. Looking on autotrader trying to find a good deal, as prices range abit. What should i expect to pay for a decent one?

Cheers.

I made the change from a Golf GTi and im glad i made the switch to the diesel. Ive got a 1.9 TDi Sport 100PD and its perfect. Saves money on fuel and looks the part.

The Ibizas are great to drive, its a VW with a different shell to be honest.

Not sure now on how much you would pay now for one, but keep and eye out on pistonheads aswell, couple of good deals on there.

Personally I'd have the Ibiza over the Mk4 Golf unless you really want the extra space?

The 100PD is perfectly quick, a shade over 10 seconds to 60 and upto 60mpg (mine's averaged 55mpg over the lsat 3000 miles, probably 54 over the 27k since I've owned it).

Depending on what your budget is and what sort of age you are looking for?
I think you could probably get a 53 plate one for around £6k, but there are a few bargains around! (Mine's a 56 plate up for sale for £8k...)

Heres a golf Golf

As you can see there is a fair price difference, is it worth it?

The Ibizas you have shown there are likely to be 130 models (someone correct if im wrong) as they are pre-04.

The golf is cheap, but has done alot of miles. Not that i would put you off that, as these engines can run for miles.

Both of those Ibiza's COULD be 100 or 130bhp versions.
Surefire way to decide is, if it has 6 gears, it is a 130bhp!
The yellow one is definately 130 (because it has 6 years), but unsure about the black one.

Finding a 100PD pre 04 is quite difficult unfortunately!

Nono, they do exist but unfortunately were all known as "Sports" and "SEs" whether they had the 100 or 130bhp engines.

I couldn't insure a 130 at 18 either but now I'm 19 upping and changing :D.

I'm 19 mate, but have 0 no claims. Still can't decide can get a golf for around 4k but going to be 6k+ for the seat i thank you for not being bias and saying seat defiantly though lol. They are about the same performance right? And both can benefit well from a remap?

Yep exactly the same boat with insuring the 130, so Im getting a remap, which should see it quicker than a stock 130 anyway. Not bad for £315 I think, the MPG is class and the torque is just amazing. I had the 1.2 Ibiza before now that was about 30bhp less than the stock pd100 but the torque made it feel so so so much faster.

Personaly I think the ibiza looks better than the golf and I think the Ibiza PD100 is quicker than the PD100 golf (not by much)

It really depends how much money you have to spend - if you can realistically only afford £5k, say, then I would definately go for the Golf. Don't forget that the Ibiza for £6k will be four years old, but a £4k Golf could be upto 8 years old.

The remap will give you 130 to 140bhp :D.

Well tbh once i sell my car i will have 4.5k ish was willing to take a 3k loan but with the golf could take less.... I do see what you mean about the age. Golfs do seem to be pricey for what they are but also in that respect they hold their value....

Guinness thats what i'm looking forward too the Torque and the Mpg :) I have a saxo VTR it's pretty nippy but it's french poorly built but a nice car never the less. Looking to upgrade.

I think you should do a insurance quote first before getting your hopes up. My insurance cost me nearly 3 grand for a 1.4. Im 18 with 0ncb. next years insurance shoulbe be about half that.

Golfs cost more to insure than ibiza's I think. Better off with the beeza anyway as they are quicker and a sportier drive.

If you took out a £3k loan (and could afford it) you could get a much newer Ibiza than those you are looking at! Have a look in my sig...

I think Ibiza's stick around their value once they get to three/four years old which is nice too :).

Edit to say: Check out Quinn Direct for good insurance quotes, at 18 0 NCB my Ibiza was about £1300.

Yeah for 7.5k you would get a very nice car. Do a quote though as insurance companies have massively increased premiums for young drivers with 0ncb.

Both of them look good, the yellow one is identical to mines... I got mines with 45K and FSSH a year ago for £6500.

The Golf is a much better car in terms of quality, but you pay more for the car and also insurance for the sake of a VW badge... hence why I drive Seat's :)

I'd certainly recommend a Seat - Plenty of bang for buck, but they do have their fair share of problems - touch wood I've never had an issue with mines in the 20K I've done over the past year though :)

TDI's do go on forever, be it in an Audi, Seat, VW or Skoda.

Let us know what you go for, if you want to see what a TDI 130 is like ... I stay in Ayrshire also and could meet up to show you if you want.

I'd recommend testing both cars, having driven the 130 and also the 100 I was quite surprised in the power difference for 30BHP - the 130 remaps to quite a bit more also, and cruises nice and smoothly at a high speed with the 6-Speed box.

that first car is a 10min drive from me lol :D O and have to say a remaped pd100 would be one hell of a car compared to a VTR.
