coil pack failure, you need vag com to see which pot the coils failed on

its in in the morning to be looked at, how much for the coil pack and how long do we reckon guys?

is this a common thing and are the symptoms sounding right for this?

its the pollutin sensor light that came on, it aint gonna be the cat is it?

coil sits on top of spark plug, take it to seat and ask for a coil pack, go in a sound like you know what it is or they will pull your pants down and abuse you!

Hiya i had a similar problem a few weeks ago but my light just stayed on didnt flash at me. I disconnected the battery and took off the engine cover to check for loose pipes. i found one pipe under the cover squashed flat and a coil pack on the far right sticking up so i pressed down on it which sorted that out and i puffed up the hose as best i could.

Reconnected the battery but the light came on still but then suddenly it disappeared never to return.

Dont know if this could work with you but worth a try!

If not it will most propably be the coil packs.

Its easy to work out which one has gone without diagnostics.

With the car running just start pulling them out one at a time. Hold onto the plastic at the top and point at the engine block. If it sparks and gives you a bit of a bolt, its fine.

When you find the one that will not spark, thats your dead one. With any luck it will be 1,2 or 3. That way you don't need to unbolt the thing that sits over 4.

I have them go every 6 months or so because I buy cheap old revision ones. I keep a spare in the car at all times.

PS: when replacing them, GENTLY push/pull the plastic tab back with a screwdriver before pulling the electrical connector off. Its easy to snap the tab

nite then, does the car run really that rough with a coil pack going?

anyone else thats not sleeping.

The coilpack generates the potential for the spark plug to operate - if one has failed you'll only be running on three cylinders - that'll be why it's running so badly

yeah its not under warranty, but ive had aa out and theyve diagnosed it as coil pack 4 cylinder nut running.
phew!!

in garage now, hopefully get done today as im at work but skiving now!

plus anyone that hasnt got aa warranty cover for 5.99 a month they cover repairs and labour upto 500 quid for a 25 quid excess, so its only gonna cost me 25 quid.

bonus

Get yourself a spare for next time (and there will be a next time) that way when the AA come out next they will do it for you there and then
