Just a few questions... Looking to buy

HI folks, well I've been a member awhile but not really posted much! I currently have a euro(ish) styled saxo as a first car and I am looking to upgrade to a MK3 Ibiza Cupra in March/April time and I was wondering if you kind people could answer a few questions for me, please? :D

- Will 195/16/40 7.5J front and (same tyre) 9J rear fit straight onto a Cupra? There ET30 rears and ET35 fronts and was wondering if I need any arch work or spacers?

- Can you fit an aftermarket CD player to a Cupra? I can't seem to see in any pictures were you could?

- What would you look out for (main problems) when looking to buy one? I have a budget of about 5/6K and will be looking for one with about 50K on the clock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I like to get all the answers in my head before I start looking and pricing things up! :)

Also for people who wonder what a saxo looks like with 9J wheels, heres an ASW for your eyes to see;

Its a break from the norm of all the fast and furious spoilers, graphics bodykits etc. For a saxo it looks well done.

For your questions, 5-6k should get you a good example. Obviously go for full service history, check that the cambelt and waterpump has been recently replaced as that will save you a couple of £££. Check brakes, tyres, signs of damage etc.

If your looking to modify why not buy one with some mild mods already done? My girlfriend did this and bought a modded Ibiza and its saved her £££.

Would be worth checking for a cupra for sale off here as you know the chances are its been looked after quite well.

Not sure about the wheels mate but Im sure someone will answer that for you:)

Yes you can fit an aftermarket cd player to the car, there is a way you can keep the normal radio fitted and relocate the aftermarket stereo under the steeering wheel

To be fair that looks tidy.

I had one once, its not until you crash one you realise how flimsy they are:cartman:

Thanks for the Reply Dan, and I'm glad somebody likes it, as I'm going off and want my Ibiza pretty sharpish. :)

Thanks for the advice on getting it off of here, I hope around the time I want to purchase one that there is a decent one out there, as there quite rare I've noticed.
So just general checks then, no special checks for the engine, or sound of the engine etc? Obviously I'll take my machanic friend, but its helpful to know this stuff myself.

I would buy a modified one if I knew it had been looked after, otherwise I'd rather go for a standard one and get it all done my self. It's going to be a project, untill I move into my own place then the MK2 golf will be a new project and the Ibiza as a daily.

How does the stereo work under the wheel, sounds abit odd?

Please someone remove that horid looking thing thats supposed to be a car lol

Atleast your looking to get a real car now tho mate

Damnit NO! I have an excuse, it's my first car! Haha.
And I am, and I can't bloody wait, soon as I turn 22 (end of march) it will be on the drive will a list of things to do! :)

The stero under the steering wheel saves you from messing around with the standard unit and it keeps that in place. My girlfriend has everything in place in hers for an aftermarket cd palyer to be fitted. Im getting her one for x-mas so if you wanna see what its like pm me in the new year and ill show you pics of it fitted to show u what i mean.

You hyave to be patient and be prepared to travel. They are rare cars. I travelled from reading to torquay to get mine (about 3 hours) but it was worth it.

If you have a laptop it would worth taking that with you and hooking up vagcom to the car your viewing to check for faults. If you want I have a copy of this i can send to you via e-mail which you can install, you would only then need to buy the cable to plug in the car and your laptop.

Obviously check for things like smoke etc and give the car some revs. Make sure you test drive it too or at the very least get the seller to take you out in it. get him to give it some as well to make sure it boosts ok. Check fuses as well as they can sometimes blow which may make the car overheat.
