16v gti oil change

me and the old man are going to do an oil change on my ibiza gti 16valve,

had a quick look and there is a big pan under the engine, do we have to take that off to drain the oil? many thanks :)

tis the sump plug u need to take out, located at the bottom of...guess what....the sump :) lol

forgot to ask......what oil u whacking in? coz once mine is running im gonng do a full service on mine, didnt kno weather to cheapo oil it or if theres any oil out there which is great for 1.8i 16v?

ive just got some castrol 10/40 gtx magnatec, best stuff is prob castrol edge sport 5/30

think dollygti is talking about the plastic engine undertray which ul need to take off and alpinewhite is referrin to the sump itself!!

why dont u just spend like £12 and get budget to do it?
I gave them the oil alone and the drained it, fitted a new filter, disposed of the old oil for £8.

or spend a bit(circa 30 quid) and get a pella pump,suck it all out of the dip stick tube,and not have to run the risk of cracking the sump trying to get the sump plug out,i have used one 4-5 times now and i wouldn't change the oil any other way.

16v needs semi.... I use Synta 10/40, what the manufacture recommends and when I was at Stealth Racing he also uses that in all his engines!, them two reason's are more than good enough for me!
