Immobiliser - Help

Well ive just joined, literally just made a hello thread lol Anyway ive just got my first seat ibiza and it seems they have a common fault with there immobiliser or at least related someway to it.

I have a GT (didnt even know they did this kind but the reg check says it is) so its a 1.8i 16v if this helps things??

I dont kno if the immobiliser that is in is standard or aftermarket, its one with a little eye just above the gear gaitor in the dash?? well i managed to get my car home and then i turned it off and then tried to start it again, twice, but i forgot to put the fob on the little eye for the immobiliser. So i put it on and tried starting it again but it wont start and hasnt for a week now. Ive taken the immobiliser out coz when i took the dash out there was wires everywhere, ive had the keys resynced because there was no transponder in the keys but still it wont start. ive checked the leads, the dizzy cap but i dont kno if its the fuel pump or the starter motor or something else. Ive got the auto leccy phoning me tomorrow because there might be something else but i dont kno.

It just teases me everytime i start it, fires up then dies a second later!!

Only option i think left is Seat now wont it?

So you have an LED in the panel with your electric window controls? The standard immobiliser in mine was next to the door pin..I can't quite work out what you mean but there is a fuse for the immobiliser - take out the glove box under the steering wheel and look on the back for the fuse number - then try replacing it? Might not work if it's an aftermarket system but still worth a go for a few pence..

no its on the centre console.....cuddnt think of where it was at the time lol literally just aboce the top of the gear stick gaitor. I've looked for the fuse for the immobiliser on the diagram on the back of the glove box but there isnt one listed :S I might just replace all the fuses and pull everything out one by one and replace them see what happens

its not standard get it removed that will sort the problem out.

So it starts then dies straight away?
Could be a few things.
Loose or faulty electrical connections in the ignition circuit
Vacuum leak at the throttle body or inlet manifold
Blocked injector/ fuel injection system fault
Cold start accelarator cable
Coolant temp sensor (i think)
Immobiliser
To name just a few.

Have you just brought the car? Did you start it when you brought it or did the guy start it? Have you turned it off and started it again since you brought it?

I don't think it's the sarter motor because it starts, then cuts out. If it was the starter motor it wouldn't even turn over. (i think)

Not too sure about it being the immobiliser either because it will start. I might be wrong though. I think if there's an immobiliser problem the car won't even turn over, but again i might be wrong.

Someone will come along with better, more knowledgable advice soon. If they can't help then your best bet would be to find a VW specailist and ask them to check the car with Vag com. SEAT will charge £40 for a scan, but a VW specailist should only charge £20.

A word of warning though, make sure they only charge £20 for a scan before you take the car in, and tell them to let you know if it's going to be more than £20 because i was told by a VW specailist it would be £20 for a scan. When i went to pay they charged me £40, and they didn't even find the fault! and they tried conning me telling me my clutch needed replacing!

Actually, as it's an aftermarket immobiliser, ignore the above. It is more than likely the immob. Like goble said, remove it and it should be fine.

One thing you could try just to check.... Start the car with your foot on the throttle a little bit. If it stays running it might be the idle switch ect...

ive taken it all out mate.....when i got the car it was all turned off and it started up fine straight away. It was once i got it home that i forgot about the immobiliser and since then it hasnt started again. Ive had a bloke i kno look over the engine and he cant seem to find anything wrong mechanical wise.

Just going to have to wait and see from the auto leccy wot he has to say for himself tomorrow and go from there.

it revs as normal like that, then i rev it again and nothing it just dies

That's weird. In that case, yea, the auto leccy should be able to find the fault.

hes already cost me £20 for 15 minutes work lol and that included sending me a text wiht an auto locksmiths number and i owe him money for resynchin my keys lol but im not going to pay for something that hasnt been fixed coz he was well **** sure of himself that he could fix it......amateur

check your fuel pump relay... as this is what it will do if this is loose or out or faulty
then fingers point at the immobiliser im affraid which will be a ball ache to fix...

i had the same issue turning out to be the fuel pump relay so its worth a shot.
its in the drivers glovebox

sounds to me though, that it has an aftermarket immobiliser, and that the standard one has have been removed

relays im pressuming are those big black fuse kinda thingys above the actual fuses? lol i been looking at them but i didnt dare touch in case the car went bang

yea thats them mate, just take it out and then put it back in, you cant put it back in the wrong way or anything so youll be fine.

probably ney, they'll most likely point you into their own workshops! What region are you in? Might be worth asking in the 'SEAT Servicing & Maintenance' part of the forum mate.

relays it is not.....just pulled them all out and put them back in

on a closer inspection of the ignition barrell wires, one of them has actually been cut so ive put that back together but nothing still......theres been wires added on aswell, i think i might just give up, send it off to a Seat mechanic give them my credit card and say...'' crack on ''
