Have you got any links to safety reports for any of these seats then? I'd be very interested to read them as we were about to buy the recaros on the understanding that they were quite good.

According to 'Which?' the top 3 Group 0 seats are (when secured with Isofix base):
Maxi Cosi Cabriofix with Easy Fix Base - 82%
Britax Cosytot Isofix - 79%
Recaro Young Profi Plus with Isofix base - 78%
They all scored the same for front impact, side impact and overall safety with the Maxi Cosi have the best overall ease of use score. They all cost and perform approximately the same so with only 4% difference between the best and worst of the 3 it's down to which fits your car the best and which you prefer in general.

I too am expecting a baby in 1 weeks time ($h1t i have 1 week!!!) and we went with the Maxi Cosi Cabrio Fix with Easy Fix base (make sure its the easy fix (ie isofix one) not the standard cheap one)
We looked at the recaros but found the maxi cosi were the better reviews plus tend to be the universal choice for all the pram manufacturers (we went for a Quinny Buzz travel system)
Also at risk of sounding homosexual and in no uncertain terms any influence in the car seat buying decision - the one we happened to pick perfectly complimented the red black theme in the Mk2 Cupra

If your up at 5 am you'll be tending to junior. If your not tending to junior you'll be wanting to sleep. For the first 3 months thats about all you will be doing, sleeping and tending to house/baby

My son will be 9mths old end of this month, so we've not long bought his first forward facing seat.
Are you looking to get a fixed seat for the car, or will you be getting a travel system (pram/buggy with car seat)? There are tons of options out there. Personally if I had another I would go for a fixed seat. The travel system was great when he was very small for just clipping onto the pram/taking into the house etc. But after a while we got P'd off with strapping the thing in all the time, was well fiddly. And it didnt take long before our boy was too heavy to carry in it, then he got too long. If you leave them in the car, the way they strap in makes it really awkward to put baby in. Some of the ones that fix in your car clip off the base, so they can still be removed, and you can also get some of this type on the travel systems. So thats a few things to consider.
There are also the Stage 0+1 seats out there which are rear and forward facing. We have one and they are good for the job, but I much prefer the forward facing only one that i've got now. Hubby has been landed with the other one for his car lol, much to his disgust.
Okay, more to the point of your question. Lots of seats out there say in the description that the base fits better on contoured/sports seats, so they would probably be worth looking at. You can also buy mats now too that you put on your seat under the baby seat, and they are supposed to make them fit better. Try the online stores like kiddicare.com. Also, best to find one you like in the stores, and most Halfords stores will bring it out and put it in your car for you to try out (Mothercare are supposed to do this too but I hear they arent good at the service). Then go on-line and shop around, almost guaranteed you'll get it cheaper.
Right i've rambled enough, can you tell im a 1st time mum who likes to be clued up? lol.
But I will say to anyone thinking of buying a forward facing car seat, the BebeConfort Axiss (the ones that swivel to face you for putting baby in/taking out) are fantastic and a god send, especially if you have a little monster like mine, a bit pricey but if you have the cash definately worth it. The cheaper version that doesnt swivel, BebeConfort Iseos TT are also great too and we were going for one of them. The Oxygen Black and Oxygen Red (which we have) colours are fab, and the seat looks really nice in the car too, quite sporty.
Give me a shout if I can offer any more advice. No doubt i'll have already found what you're looking for pmsl. Best of luck!

We have bought the Shopper 7 Travel System by Hauck. Comes with an additional £90 worth of accessories from the place we bought it from.
My girlfriend is mad on Winnie the Pooh so it kinda keeps her happy as well as the travel system is the Disney Pooh bear and Tigger design.
Also has a little Pooh Bear cuddly toy hanging from the hood
Put it together at the weekend and all seems ok. No car seat base but the seat belt fixing seems quite straightforward.

Found out the night of the work's Xmas do that I am to be a father. I also stumbled across the Recaro baby seats and consequently have upgraded the Cupra to a Cupra R with Recaros just for the occasion!
