Coming from front off side. Only when freewheeling or drifting in gear and not under braking or acceleration. Sounds a little like a worn drop link knock but I cant be sure.
Any common faults I should be aware of??

funnily enough i'm getting something similar i thought it was the new poly dog bone mount i'd fitted so rechecked that and all is ok, so the only thing i can think it could be is either an arb bush, or arb drop link..

If it's like a sort of gnawing type noise is the only way i can describe it... it sounds like a rat chewing on a metal pipe as you drive along

ok had my ARB mounts replaced but its still there :( they reckon they would need it for a few days to investigate :( but they think it could be the suspension arm/suspension. Its only happening on the drivers side now so slight improvement hmm

So what their saying is, they didn't investigate properly to start with and you paid out and still got the problems.....

Bloody garages eh !!! thier not mechanics any more, if they don't have a book or a computer in front of them telling them what the fault is, their fooked... and even then sometimes if they have got one they still can't diagnose the fault [:@]

This is why i hate going to garages.... having worked at one; not teching tho' thankfully...

I have recently had a similar noise coming from the front offside and i finally booked it into the garage as the noise got louder and louder. Expecting the worst i put it in with a suspected CV joint problem. I was delighted when the gargae phoned back 20mins later and said that it was my brake discs that were loose and making the horrible sounds. Although not chuffed at this fact, as it just had its first MOT 2 months ago. None the less it saved me alot of money. They fixed it for nowt. Maybe this could be the cause of the loud noise??

I have just got my car back after two weeks in the garage with exactly the same symptoms a knocking noise from front offside which only occurred when free wheeling not under load. If I accelerated or braked the noise went only to come back as soon as I started to free wheel.
Thankfully I work next door to the garage when they lifted car in the air they called me over & with the car in gear me & a technician under car & another in car accelerating & free wheeling a loud clunking was heard from the transmission. Upon removal the flywheel could be moved over 1" side to side . Thank god it had held together I thought, a new fly wheel was fitted only for exact same clunk/knock to start as soon as car was free wheeled :censored: only this time the noise was not accompanied with flywheel noise.
The noise was pin pointed to OSF wheel bearing which was on the verge of colapse although no free play was evedent. With a new bearing fitted all was fine on the noise front, but this morning my battery give up! all in all a bloody expensive month. Still love the car though:)
