turbo kicking in late

i have 52 plate LCR. unless im tripping, im sure my turbo is kicking in late. it takes longer and harder press of accelerator for it to kick in, it used to come on a lot easier and earlier. it hardly even kicks in in second gear.

can this happen? how could i fix it? the garage at my area is hopeless they would never know what to do.

any thoughts? cheers!

Is your car standard turbo?
Have you had the car remapped?
Have you had it on a Rolling Road? If not this will show you whats happening with the turbo
Do you have a boost gauge fitted to your car?

Check pipes to and from the intercooler and turbo itself. Boost-leak could give the sensation of late-turbo (until the impeller has spooled up to max RPM) and would also give you a feeling of low-boost.

yes standard car turbo. 1.8T 20V

not remapped, no boost gauge or no rolling road - seems at bit over the top, their wont be one for miles and miles in my area. i just noticing that the turbo is coming in late (the whirring noise)

What's a disgrace?

For info, your turbo should be spooling fully by 3000rpm. If it is not, there is something wrong. It should actually start spooling around 2500rpm.

If you dont know your IC from your turbo, then there's not much advice we can give you on here. Most people have some sort of car mechanical knowledge so the usual responses of checking boost leaks, maf, dumpvalve i grasp are beyond you.

Plumbed in boost gauge would tell you if you were hitting max pressure at certain rpm and so would monitoring the car with vagcom (computer software) Seeing as you have neither, its pretty hard to give an answer to your question

You've not given us a lot of details to work on. When is it at full boost?

Its probably something daft like your airfilter or maf that is needing cleaned:)

Where do you live? Someone may help you out and log your car with vagcom. Im in NE Scotland if you're anywhere near.

im in glasgow. i will check next time im in my car but im sure it kicks in much later than 2500 revs

seemed one day just late at kicking in, just after ordinary use.

what is the most likely cause of this?

If you get your car to a garage with a fault-diagnosis machine that will interrogate your Leon, then you could be 1/2 way there.

It'll display fault codes and allow you to try rectify them. It can be hit and miss and many faults are shown as a result of others. Solve one and it may clear 4 others. It's hit and miss, as I say.

In the mean time.. your turbo is behind your engine - notice the heat-shield against the bulkhead and the charge pipes heading towards it. The intercooler is at the front of the engine near the raditor. Check pipes to this as well. If you're losing boost through a hose/pipe not being connected properly, then that'd be a quick-fix.

all a "decent" garage would do is still run it through vag com (or similar) and charge you mitchy was offering something for free (I asume ;))

the only difference is a garage MAY be able to decifer what the problem is there and then, where as looking into it you self and asking people on here may take more time but would be a dam site cheeper

Your coming on here asking for help, we're trying to give you a little but your posting seems a bit arrogant:blink:

That's exactly what a garage or tuner would do, but charge you about 40quid for the privelage plus around 45+vat per hour searching and solving the fault. If you take it to a garage that doesn't know what their doing, your car could be there all day if not more. Quite expensive!

Vagcom will tell you EXACTLY what is wrong with your car, and the wealth of knowledge on this forum is better than what any dealership/tuner knows. The faults have been around 100 times before and we on this forum are all very aware of them.

Would you like me to come to your doorstep and solve the fault for you free of charge:rolleyes:

Like you said beforehand You'll just need to put up with it!!!!!!!!
