Novel, but why are the gear cable selector 'holes' wonky? don't they need to be vertical?

The offside cable is quite a bit above the forward back selector so it needs to point downwards toward it. The nearside cable bracket is vertical. (if my measurements are right, the bracket holes should only be 9mm above where I've had them mounted before.

I'm just busy attacking that big lug on the gearbox I'd forgotten about. :doh:

It's close, but all just slightly out of alignment because the two mounting holes on the gearbox casing aren't 90 degrees to the compressor inlet. It's tight and it's in-out tweak a little here, in-out tweak a little there ..................

This was always about the shifter cables. Mark, you're never wrong. The front to back bracket IS leaning too far forwards. With the additional stretch on the cables, the side to side bracket needs mounting 20mm further back.

It's all come off again so the bracket can be rewelded, which hopefully will be Monday.

Pressure's on next week.:D

It doesn't look like I'm going to get the bracket back before Thursday. :blink: (RR Saturday), So I'm going to have to try and build the TIP without it, then reinstall when it comes.

The casual observer might wonder what the fuss is about. Just to sumarise, my turbo inlet sits so low that it's in line with the gearbox casing where the gearchange cables are mounted. In order to get decent airflow into the turbo, the cables need to run across the top of the turbo inlet pipe. The problem is much compounded because room is very tight down there, with numerous obstructions and odd angles to take into account.

Here's a picture of the silicon mounted on the turbo inlet. (Yes that is my turbo - you can just see the 'G' of Garrett) You can see that the hose actually sits on the gearbox casing. The two bolt holes (one just obscured by the hose joiner) you can see are the only practical places that a bracket for the shifter cables can be mounted.

I got the shifter bracket back at the 11th hour and the alterations weren't quite as specified. I decided I'd try and fit it anyway and had a dispiriting few hours last night trying to thread it all together. Very late on, I managed it.

I put it all back together this morning, but had to improvise on the catch tank location so I could drive down to JBS for the rr run. I didn't have time to do any logs - I decided I'd just hope I'd got it right. Car set at T9 HB9

First RR run, it ran 268 bhp. James commented it really needed / could take advantage of advanced timing.

Second run, I pulled the fuse on the water/methanol. 295.2 bhp 265.9 torque. I'd like to have seen 300+, but hey, not bad for a DIY job. :shrug:

James said he thought the hardware was right and that he reckoned he could find me another 30-40 bhp and a lot more torque.

The big inlet does sound better, I think I've got that as good as I can. (because of the welding mistake on the shifter bracket, my side to side cable is a bit stretched. I've set it so that all the gears are fine - excepting reverse. It's a bit pot luck where you find it.

Maybe the water injection requires rejetting, ie maybe too much water is being injected spoiling the burn....:confused: James's offer sounds tempting. ;)

Cheers Carl, yes the TIP seems to have made a difference. I'm really looking forward to logging it to see if the figures show anything.

I'll certainly be trying a smaller jet in the WMI and cutting down on the %methanol for now.

James' offer is more than tempting, it's virtually irresistible. :D

Are you going to let "The lads from Dav" have a look at the logs first? I think your mods are pretty much textbook Stage3, so if you can run it on B9 T9 with the meth turned off, they also might be able to do something with the code. Also virtually irresistibly...

keeping discussion off jbs section.. the water/meth with no tune to support it did'nt make power on a power run on mine. short runs.. not like real use. it did allow me to dial in 12 degrees more timing tho, which is a shed load. added it 3 degrees at a time and logged CF.

i used the smallest snow jet in mine. seemed near same water flow as 0.8mm aquamist but better spread of atomisation.

i recall vince at stealth commenting when he mapped 20vt converted cars on dta, for every 3 degrees more advance he saw 10bhp more. - significant gains

you can use unisettings on a usb vag-com cable to adjust your ign channel offset. that what i used, and fuel trims to remove some fueling to compensate for 50/50 water/meth "fuel". without this you drop power from overrich 0.75/0.65 fueling.

Can you get me a jet from the basic kit, Bill? I'm more than willing to try unisettings etc. (need a USB cable, my vag-com is serial). What do I use to tell me that I'm benefiting from the tweaks?
