Just took my car for its first year service(£149!) and been told i need to have my drivers side rear wheel bearing replaced already!! its only done 6200 miles. Has anyone else had problems with theirs?

When I test drove my TDI Sport, one of the rear wheel bearings had gone with 23K on the clock.
It was replaced under warranty.
It was replaced under warranty.
Mine is being replaced under warranty but its not one of the things i would expect to go after such low mileage
There is always the the odd build/material problem was this a early build car, there are lots of problems with them - least you have 3 yrs warranty on your side although I'm still trying to get my headlamp water ingress sorted - 8wks on and counting

Wheel Bearings
I had my front nearside replaced under warranty at 7300mls.
I thought it was something catching the wheel when turning right. Couldn't believe it when they said it was the bearing, i thought they were just guessing.
It worked though as it hasn't happened since......

The car was registerd in Sept 2005, so probably is an early build car.
Has 2 years warranty left.
Along with the wheel bearing, the turbo was replaced due to whistle/whine noise from the old one. Other than that it's been fine.

A noise "like a wheebearing" was picked up on my 56 plate FR TFSI.
They meddled with the rear suspension as they said uneven tyre wear was present. I had a 4wheel geo and some other changes.
There's still a noise, tho - the gf reckons she can definitely hear it.
I'm going to take all the crap out of the back, give it a healthy test drive, and book it back in if it's not right.

Just picked mine up from eing fixed so will see when i give it a run later if the droning noise i heard which might have been the wheel bearing has gone.
On a side note how cheap is the touch up pen!! £3.60 something!

Im not sure if my problem is with the bearing or the rear brakes sticking. But at slow speed the rear passenger feels like its handbrake is stuck on. Makes that funny noise. When I stop the alloy is hotter than the rest and its smells of a faint burning. Is this the symptoms of the bearing?
My car was in getting a sensor in the exhaust fixed last week, been like that since that time, is it a coincidence? Perhaps they interfered with the cable to the brake?

I got my 55 TDI Sport with 20k on the clock 3 weeks ago and it has a wheel bearing drone. Local stealer are looking at it in the new year and say that it will be covered by warranty.
Yeah - wont be bearing, it'll be tyre.
As for the previous post 30% towards a new rear tyre!!
Unless its low, i'd be going for 70% cost and let them knock me down to 50% !

Sorry to dig up any old thread/post but I have this also and was wondering if this was resolved for you?
That sounds more like a seized brake caliper than a bearing, unless the bearing has SERIOUSLY collapsed and is causing major resistance!
