I just had a 20k service done on my TFSI which cost just over £200 after a 10% discount cos I bought my car from that dealer. I wasn't charged extra for a courtesy car but paid about a tenner to waive the £1000 excess!

Courtesy car rules change from dealer to dealer and even the dealers themselves change the rules, depending on if they've had any accidents recently.

I would generally expect a courtesy car free for a service after all you are paying £200+ for a few hours work. I've never paid for one in 10 years of gettign services done at main dealers.

If you are getting warrenty work done at the same time, then the car should be free without any charges for insurance. Normally any charge for a courtesy car with a service is for the insurance, so ask if you can put it on your own thus save paying any excess waiver. My dealer (probably the same one as shuikit uses) is happy for you to do that.

Changed to seat 4 years ago and always used my local stealer and have always been given a complimentary courtesy car for services etc. (With no extra charges!!!!!!!!!!!!) Always, of course, subject to the availability of their courtesy car on the day.

I use Richard Alexanda in Hudds. They're okay, I don't quite feel as "looked after" service price wise etc. as they said I would be when I was buying the motor. Overall reasonably efficient though, except they didn't seem to have washed my car even though it said that it was washed on my bill.

Yes - I could have used my own insurance, but they wanted (from memory) 20quid! ..so paying the waiver was cheaper! But still, it's the only time I've ever seen such a huge excess...

That's where I go too. I had my first (10,000) service on my FR TDi a few months back and from memory it was £160 all in with a courtesy car. To be fair though I only had it for about 2 hours before my car was ready. I remember them saying something about an excess/insurance but I'm not sure what. I think I just took the risk with the excess - for a few hours it didn't seem worth paying any more.

It was worth taking it in for a service just to appreciate my FR again when I handed back the 1.9 TDi Altea! :p

Oh, I forgot. The nice thing about Richard Alexander was that when I rang up for a quote he said I'll do it for £160 all in. There was no messing around or them charging for extras on the day. The bill had the usual rip off stuff on it - screen wash, screws etc etc but the final price was discounted to the agreed price. They also gave me the remains of the bottle of screenwash and also a litre of oil in a zip up bag which sticks to the inside of the boot.

My dealer tried to charge me for a yr2 service instead of a yr1 service.

Er, no.

Scumbags!

I feel I have just been ripped off! The Camberley service centre charged me £285 for my 20,000 mile service! [:@]

Looks like I will be going elsewhere for the 30k!

I think that's what they tried to charge me for - £240.

Edit - for a Petrol, at a different dealer.

Guys I had a rant on here about servicing costs before , my father got his MK2 Leon FR tdi service for first one for a 130 odd quid with the stealers. Just tell them you can get it done cheaper at approved VW/Seat specialist garage and then you see the price drop. My old man did this and it was 60 quid cheaper.
