Leon FR - Ticking noise from glovebox area

FR 2.0T Leon

Guest
Could somebody please offer some advise???
I have done a 'search' for this topic, but nothing there.
I have a Leon FR 56 plate, its the TFSI - when l get in it in the morning, there is a ticking noise from the glovebox area - when the car was in for its first service l asked them to investigate, they came back saying it was a standard to all of the leon FR's ( petrol version ) - l find this hard to believe???
Does anyone else experience this or have l just been fed a load of sh*te????
Other than that the car is bloody marvellous.

By the way dealer is LC Charles in Crewe - less than impressed!!!!

Well, that puts my mind at ease, ditto your comments on the sales kids!! I asked the kid that sold me mine how much a tyre would be for it - in his professional estimation - £85-90!!!!!! yea of course it will - 18" wheels!!
Have you had a service done there as well???

Cheers Mode, will bear these people in mind for future service.

By the way - your first service for the FR assuming you have the petrol should be £175 - not £145 as stated on the board for service charges in the dealership.

It is irritating - quite embarrasing as well, when l picked the car up l took a collegue out in it and he instantly asked what the noise was..............l had no idea.
Let me know how you get on with it Trutata.

This sounds like a common problem on Mk5 Golfs, and as someone else has suggested its some kind of valve for the climate control. Im fairly sure it was normally fixed by a software upgrade..

I also have this extremely annoying ticking ("tick tack") which comes from under the steering wheel on the left (wheel on the left) and starts after driving for about a minute (it does not matter if airconditioning is turned on or not). Once it starts it does not stop until you turn the engine off.

I was told it could be a relay that was broken but replacing it at the dealer did not help because the same ticking noise came back almost immediately after driving around 100 km. Is this related to the airconditioning or does anyone have any ideas what else could cause it?

Yes, it starts after about 1-5 minutes of driving and my steering wheel is also on the left side. First a couple of days (I got my new FR two weeks ago) ticking continued till the end and stopped when the engine was turned off.
But now it is not so constant anymore and ticking continues only for about a couple of minutes. I noticed that ticking usually starts after some medium/heavy acceleration.

If its by the steering wheel, I would of thougtht its a relay problem rather than aircon.

Yes, you're right, this doesn't seem to relate to airconditioning and as this particular ticking comes from under the steering wheel I probably picked the wrong thread.

There seems to be quite a lot of relay ticking when starting the engine (most of which quiets down) but this ticking comes back on after a while so I guess it's a matter of finding the source. Based on trutata's post I don't think we have the same problem because once mine comes on it doesn't stop.

Ticking is gone !! :funk:

Went to see my dealer and he told me that the cause of ticking
is the heating for the door mirrors. I had it always on and the relay gets overheated during the warm summer days and starts to click on and off. Dealer said that it is advisable to turn the mirror heating off when it is not needed.

I turned the heating off and the ticking stopped at the same moment!
But still it seems to me like a faulty behavior, it should not tick that way. When the heating is overheated then it should simply turn itself off and not tick. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. Dealer said that it is a normal behavior.

Great news that you got it solved. I did try this and mine will also start ticking after a while so in that way it seems like normal behavior. It will be interesting to see whether it does this during the winter as well. I agree it's not that obvious considering there doesn't seem to be any light indicating it's on.

I am so glad I read this !

I also have the ticking and the dealer said it was probably the HP fuel pump.

Mine comes from under the steering wheel though.

I will try to see if the heater switch stops it...

Nope... I switched off the heated mirrors and the noise is still there.

I didn't turn the ignition key all the way and consequently could hear it louder.

It sounds like it is in stereo, on both sides of the dashboard (near the wheel AND near the glovebox).

This is really bugging me now !
