Retro-fitting Bluetooth

What's the possibility of having the bluetooth pack retro-fitted to a new (March '07) Leon TDi FR ?

Dealer wasn't exactly forthcoming about the option packs at the time and unless you read this very useful forum (admittedly too little, too late on my part) it's difficult to determine the implications of leaving it out.

Seems that the larger bluetooth display is packed with all sorts of useful additions other than bluetooth.......like the 'your washer bottle's nearly empty.....do something about it' warning light. Who would have thought this was now considered an option when standard on my previous Leon SE 130 TDi

I would think the cost could be pretty prohibitive TBH. It would Involve changing the instrument cluster, re-programming the ECU, hooking it up to the stereo etc etc. Parts wouldn't be cheap and labour could mount up. At the time when we got our MK2 the option was £175. Would guess it would cost much more than that to retrofit.

I wish I got it too but it was a choice between a 12 week factory order or a car within a week and I couldn't be bothered with the wait. I'm going for the Parrot bluetooth option I think. Not as good as an OE unit but a decent relatively inexpensive alternative.

I have an FR with bluetooth. It's a 56 plate registered at the beginning of Jan. My windscreen washer has just run out and I didn't get any warning :-(

I have a 56 plate registered early Feb with bluetooth - did get washer warning on MFD (very small icon from memory) but seems to only show once - when I re-started engine a couple of time on other journeys did not get another warning.

You could get an aftermarket headunit with Bluetooth support? They have really dropped in price from what they used to be.

I'm interested in this too. I still wouldn't have waited longer for the car just for Bluetooth, but the display is much better than the small standard 1. I wouldn't even use the bluetooth function that much, I just want a bigger display..

That's really the reason why I wanted to find out whether it was possible to retro-fit.....for the bigger better display......and all the extra functions/warning lights, plus, if I've scanned these forums correctly, the possibility of navigating the menu functions, which just isn't possible with the standard MFD.

The fact that it's all centred around the availability of Bluetooth doesn't really interest me, although with the new phone fines/points it's always worth having even if just for selling on.

In the end I went for quick car delivery over detailed research on the various packs....didn't think for one minute that leaving out Bluetooth also meant leaving out all the other stuff.

Oh well.....ho hum

There's a GB going on on Briskoda, the chap over there is getting factory OEM supply and there have been several installed and all with success. I would say though that you will need the MFD if you want one of these units.

Actually it's not as bad as it looks. A bit of trim removal and all looms are included in the kit from what i can see.

Thats kind of irrelevent to our models as you would have to change the whole dash display to get the larger MFD on the Leon. Which is a pretty big deal I would of thought.
You get the larger MFD only if you have the Bluetooth option in the first place.

Hi GB is running Bluetooth kits and Maxidot, i was referring to the Bluetooth only and suggesting that Maxidot would have to be fitted, not retro fitted, maybe i should have been clearer in what i was actually referring to. Of course the dash pods are completely different, the Bluetooth kits are not.

I meant that Leon's only have the dashpood with the MFD if it has the bluetooth option installed from the factory.
Ie; There's no such thing as a Leon with an MFD without bluetooth.
And the dashpods on the cars without the MFD/bluetooth are very different.
So we would need to find a new dashpod with MFD on it

yes it will, and the extra warning/info lamps.
i dont have any non-bluetooth pics but i think the two differences are in the brochure.
i'll post some large mfd pics tomorrow that are clearer/larger than in the brochure if youd like any.

Mine didn't. It came with an ipod conncetor

Which is all well and good, except it's completely crap. Bet it wouldn't have cost any more to implement proper functionality.
