Heya Guys

Im looking for a bit of technical help.

My car has been cutting out randomly while driving along.

I have taken peoples advice and done the following

Replaced ECU Relay
Replace Fuel Relay
Cleaned Throttle Body
New Dizzy Cap
New Rotor Arm
New Plugs
New Leads
New Ignition Coil Pack

while driving along the road the car will just cut out at random, Sometime the car stalls or the Rev's will drop dramatically then bounce back up.

Each time this happens i notice a clicking noise coming from the steering column, Fuse box area.

Ill try and explain the sound.
if you turn the ignition on in the car (so all lights come on the dash)
Turn the key back to the off position but if you leave it there and listen about 5 - 10 seconds or so you will hear a little click.
Im imagining this could be an imobiliser cutting in or fuel pump being turned off or something like that.

But if anyone has any information that could help i would be most appreciative.

Thanks

Gav

(only other thing I can think it'll be, is the crank position sensor.)

Nope, Sorry havent got a clue what it is.

I dont really use my car that much anymore so just sits at the train station car park most of the day.

I ran some Redex through it the other day and it does seem to be a lot better.
Drove up to Clacket lane on sunday and back without a fault.

If you find out anything drop me a PM.

Im not sure what other relays are my the fuse box, It could be an immobilser problem ??

I do have an aftermarket laserline fittted, but I know the fitter and saw his work, which is really good. so might be the OE one playing up

My car doesn't cut out all the time, but sometimes if started from cold i have to give it revs or it cuts out.
I do however get the same noise that you are descibing. It sounds abit like a a pump. Had a alook in the engine and the little metal bit in on the throtlle body (the round black thing with the acclerator cable attached to it) is moving, without the car started (key is turned so that the lights on the dash are on.)
Going to hopefully get the car vagcomed and see what comes up.

If anyone knows what im on about please help lol.

I had this problem and it turned out to be water getting through the drip tray and onto the ecu. Check to make sure its insulated propally. Grease it up well and maybe place it in a plastic bag.

I also had the crank position sensor. Think i payed £30 for a new one. Fairly easy to fit.

Does anyone know where the crank position sensor is? Also would that be the reason that the car sometimes hesitates when i accelerate?

Located right at the front of the engine bay, central, just to the right of the dip stick as you look at the car. It's in the most ******* place though, I got a garage to fit it for an hour and a halfs labour.

Mine used to hesitate for 6months before I finally finished trying all the little fixes and got the sensor. It's basically misfiring, and would do so at least once every other journey.

Lemmi know if you want the last sensor, I'll get rid of it for 40quid delivered if you want.

How much are do these sensors normally go for? And also do all ibiza's (mk2)have a crank sensor (ie 1.0l, 1.4, 2.0) and if so are they all the same ie is there one crank sensor that fits all or do they vary per engine?

I got mine from my local parts shop for around £30 brand new.

Also, an hour and a half's labour Smithy! You were robbed pal!

You did well on the price of the sensor, they're £50 exc vat new from GSF, and that doesn't include delivery either.

Got it done at a local garage round the corner from work, they're pretty cheap anyway, you won't find many places that do it for less than an hours labour unless you know people, so not so much robbed :p
