B Pillar Squeak

Hi all,

I have checked out all the squeak and rattle threads but can't seem to find anyone with my "noise"

It is a loud squeak that happens as you accelerate or drive over an uneven service that is basically coming from the area where the passenger seat belt comes out of the b-pillar. It is loud and annoying. My gf says it is 100% definately not coming from further back in the car as some of you have suggested.

Anyone had this? I have tried adjusting the seat belt up and down, perhaps it is something to do with the airbag? Any ideas or is this my unique issue!?!

Thanks!

Its not from the window is it, my windows squeak when going over uneven ground etc.

It sounds like the seat belt bit or maybe something inside... does it with windows open or closed

Was there not a thread about a loose seatbelt assembly behind the pillar covering, or a bolt/but too close to the cover?? Dont know where it is now, will search about. may be wrong?

I have the exact same problem and this IS annoying. First time I went to dealer they didn't find anything wrong with it... Will not let it stay that way tho. Glad to know this is not only my problem then. Please let me know if you find an answer and vice versa ofcourse.

I think this may be a design flaw, as I have exactly the same problem. I came here to see whether anybody else had it, and found this thread immediately. I think it may be the body and door flexing, and it's the window glass that is making the noise. The noise disappeared when I opened the window...

The only thing that makes me wonder about the design flaw theory is that it seems...

a) pretty rare with the other members
b) only happens on the passenger side

I don't give a toss how my stealer fixes it but it must be fixed... I am actually embarrased to have passengers in my "brand new car" which squeaks louder than a 1962 beetle interior.

Will keep you guys posted

I still think body flex is the issue here. I first noticed the problem when parking the car on an uneven verge in the Outer Hebrides. As the car climbed onto the verge it made all sorts of creaking and groaning noises, commensurate with a flexy, bendy body. The noises were just as bad coming off the verge. I don't know whether this manoeuvre was responsible for the subsequent noises, but I never noticed them beforehand.

it is to do with body flex - 100% agree but it is completely unacceptable. It is however only as I said on the passenger side and if thats the case they will make a plan and fix it.

I am actually embarrased to take passengers in my brand new car - absolute bollocks!!! My stealer are going to look at it... if they ever get back to me with when they can book it in!

In my LeonFR 2.0 TDI
ive noticed if you stand up against the car and lean against a window you can make it creak by applying varying amounts of bodyweight to it, the window down would take some of the pressure off the top of the door frame, as i tried it when the window was down and could hardly get it to creak, if this is the issue then it going to be really hard to resolve.

You need to give them a deadline to resolve the issue or its refund or replace time, 2 weeks is plenty, i've had hours on the phone to trading standards and from they're point of view ( the old door lock issue), SEAT are well and trully in the wrong. unfortunatly rattles are alot harder to make a case with, my not locking the doors alarm going off issue, was a fundimental part of the cars security and i was carless for 5 weeks, 1 call to seat uk explaining that if its not resolved by the end of the week will result in me contacting trading standards followed by my solicitor resulted in the door module being found within hours. I didnt stop there tho, kept complainint to seat uk and got 1st service free, and £300 in my pocket, which might sound ok, but when i had to spend an extra £250 on fuel and time off work its not so good.

I have noticed this kind of creak sound as well when washing the area where the window meets the roof...but I don't think it makes the noise when driving, and I have not tried it with the window down.

have you tried putting silicone on the door rubbers? if you dont have any silicone try a smear of vasaline.
im not saying you have to do this on a regular basis, just try it to see if it makes any difference.
if nothing else it should take something out of the equation.

ive got a fair idea.

its normal!

incidently, i noticed today a vibrating buzzing sound from my drivers side b pillar, thought it was the rear tweeter all this time but pressed on the panel about an inch below the seatbelt slot and it went, released pressure and it was back, now its driving me nuts, im gonna investigate when its dryer (lol yer i know, that could be next year some time)

I appreciate everyones input but it seems you guys are not understanding that it is so loud and so frequent that I cannot live with it - if its normal I will sell the car and never buy another SEAT again.

Being embarrased to have passengers in my brand new car is not what I signed up for

I have just spent a frustrating 2 days driving around with a chirping sound coming from somewhere inside the car. I thought I had a chuffin canary somewhere hidden inside. To my relief, it turned out that the noise was coming from the back seat not being clicked back into place properly and the red tab was up slightly. Lowered the seat and then clicked it back in and hey presto, the noise went away. It was driving me mad though!

ITS FIXED!!!
Although it sounded like it was coming from the B Pillar at sort of ear level (which made me suspect the seat belt assembly) it ended up being the door locking mechanism rubbing inside the door. Was at the stealer for 5 days and I threw my toys more than once but in the end I am ecstatic.

Oh... and getting back into my FR after almost a week in a 1.4 Ibiza is better than sex (well almost)

there was a problem with the actual lock mechanism, it wasnt able to be securely (enough) fastened to the door... threaded something I would suspect. Replaced the lock and wham bam its gone!
