I think i'm partly to blame for Karlos getting his LCR mapped, i followed him down past Gt Barford on the bypass and he wasn't exactly disappearing into the distance.
On a proper track day, those cars that have had suspension and brake work done are going to go better than those with simply a remap + exhaust / filter.
1/4 sprints are down to driver skill and how keen people are to launch agressively. I would never launch mine in 2nd gear and as such i refuse to do sprints.
What would be interesting is a line of cars on a wide runway, rolling start at 30mph in 3rd then go flat out as far as you can and time the results - that would show how quick the cars were.
What we also need is an RR day where we get Revo / CC / Jabba / Ptorque / ChippedUK remapped cars both derv and petrol and compare the actual figures recorded on the day. What matters is the relative figures at the time, not what figures have been recorded before.
What would be even more interesting is to have those companies present and get them to try their respective maps on a test vehicle on independant rollers. That way you'd truly see which map did what where all the other variables are constant.

i agree there are too many variables to say which car is fastest at doing what.not everyone wants to thrash it on the strip,or risk stacking it on a track as for the 30 mph rolling start in third...yet again different cars will perform better than others.

Then it comes down to driver skill so the only way to test that is to have the same driver, those who are not used to driving diesels / petrol turbos will not get the best times
It's a minefield and largely down to personal preference. Personally having had a high revving honda engine with little low down torque, i love the way the Tdi delivers the power 90% of the time. The 10% i don't like isn't enough to justify changing to the LCR - not for me anyway

My mates got an older cupra and on working through the gears I cant keep up with him in my 05frtdi. He seems to have longer power reach. He does tend to rev it very high, but the power seems to be continuos through all the gears.
Still go for the tdi. As hes booting it away you can watch the petrol needle drop.lol. tdi all the way for fuel consumption. Love the torque of the tdi..

I came from a diesel (130GTTDI Golf - Mapped to 175) its was good on fuel - fast bla bla bla, tunning is expensive on a derv, the power isn't as available all through the revs, runs out too quick and its not as good as a petrol for noise.
The petol has MUCH more usable power it doesn't run out just as your catchin that type r in front and you don't have to change gear half way round a bend.
Having only 50 quid a month for fuel just make sure your doing less than 300 miles a month and you'll be fine in the petrol!

This does depend on your driving style and the nature of the map. Granted a remap will wear out the clutch quicker but it's not going to snap the second someone goes near the OBD port. Most generic maps will encourage slippage but you could tune it down - although why would you?
If you drive it like you stole it you might still be alright - it only really tends to slip in higher gears changing up at lower revs.
It would be on your shopping list 6-12 months down the line.
True...I do around 10k a year at the moment.Don't think I could have a cupra and just watch it sitting there all day though
£50 is what i spend a month doing 10 miles to work and back, ( plus a bit of weekend running around) each day driving like a nutter

diesels are great if you dont like the pumps but still think petrol is the mans choice!!we could go on about this for years!!!!

And don't you mean petrol cars rather than TDIs? Thought the Cupra 'look' could be copied by anyone willing to buy some bits and bolt them on - there's plenty on here have done it over the years - petrol and diesel. Why don't you do it to your 1.6S then you can reliably post up if it increased your pulling power? (of women that is!).

The LCR is slightly more fun to drive and a bit faster, it burns of cheap porches which is cool, but other than that it really doesn't make much difference on the road unless you are trying to lose your licence.
The TDi is much cheaper to run, cheaper on fuel, cheaper to insure, cheaper to service, cheaper on tyres, cheaper on brake pads.
The main reason i changed was to tow, but it also costs me half as much to run as the LCR did.
