Given your circumstances I would go for the TDi.

I've driven an Ibiza TDi and now drive and LCR - yes the Leon's FAR more fun but in 3 years or so I can see myself going back to a diesel for the economy and, dare I say, the low down torquey grunt?

i do quite alot of miles
but still went for the petrol and im glad i did

expensive outlay for a diesel so when you mark an extra 2-4k for a tdi your overall running costs start to look the same.

a remapped diesel will be just as quick as a petrol
but a remapped petrol will still leave the derv behind all day

Remap 180 cupra will not leave a remapped derv. Mapped 180 just about keeps up with a 225 Cupra R however with a derv your talking about being a little faster....

I love the talk of this leaving this and that leaving that - the difference is hardly night and day, it's as much down to road conditions and driver skill as it is down to power. That's not mentioning suspension tweaks, tyres, brakes or all the other contributing factors.

90% of the time i'm happy i bought a Tdi, the other 10% is when some flash git goes chewing off doing a 0 to 60 traffic light grand prix, for that one time only i wish i'd bought a petrol.

Horses for courses, you won't be unhappy with either - i think you'll struggle to find an 04 PD150 Leon in decent condition and without stella miles for under £8000 though.

ffs
we should ban all petrol v diesel threads

****ing nightmare of people getting their arse's in the air over someone elses VIEW.

my view is that --- " however with a derv your talking about being a little faster...." is absolute bull

cha chinggggggggg

as pat, myself and few have said. with your budget it will be very hard to get a good diesel
and buying a diesel costs you a good few k more at least.
for me, it all balances, if id bought a diesel it probably would have cost me the same at this current point as my petrol has but i know which id rather have

I really don't get why your getting so upset. I fail to see how I induced an argument when looking at your initial post. I was merely stating quite common and acknowledged view.

I'd keep the 110 - carry on saving what I could through uni and then buy a LCR on the other side! :D

a very good idea
i had a car through uni and i didnt really use it
you dont need one so save the cash, add to it and accumulate interest

All JonJay did was respond to your vague comment......;)

"a remapped diesel will be just as quick as a petrol

I think general consensus on this site is that a remapped (Stage 1) Petrol 180 goes to around the 200bhp mark while a remapped Derv 150 can go to about the same bhp but with a lot more torque. From this i dont see what your thinking is?!

Anyway...Zan....both great cars IMO with different qualities and you wont be unhappy with either choice! :D

I agree this would be sensible...you know how it is though, you have a little bit of money saved up,start looking at cars, insurance etc then u just have to get one :D Iv had mine 3 years now so it's time to part with it soon...don't get me wrong tho,the 110 is brilliant, hence why im planning another leon ;)

Why not just remap it and watch it transform. You could spend like 5-600 quid on remap and suspension and you got yourself a whole different beast.

wasnt disagreeing with that

was merely frustrated as im sick of reading diesels are better than petrols and vice versa

the comment i didnt agree with was that a mapped tdi 150 will keep up with an LCR, crap
and if we're been picky lc's with stage 1 generic maps go to 210 min, maybe a bit more if your lucky but nowhere near 225

anyway
handbags away im not looking again on this
my own fault for getting drawn in and giving an opinion

Ok dont laugh but it has a tuning box on already(supposedly now around 140hp) which definately makes a difference...i know not anywhere near as good as a remap but does the job  Also it has been lowered 40mm.good ideas if i hadnt already tho ;)

Tuningbox...I doubt will give you that much performance as 40bhp, Maybe 10-15bhp...All its doing is alloying more fuel to be dumped into the engine. Remap will definitely be much much better in every way. Also what suspension you got? Lower by 40mm via a cheap spring route isnt the best unless they are some decent springs.....

Put a 150PD intercooler on the front from Allards and a remap and a few bits here and there and your have a 150PD except from the 6 speed box....
Worth a look on Allards website on maybe using 1k on making some real bhp, then the rest you can sit on as a nest egg till as they say leave uni then trade it in for a LCR.. thats what i would do...

Rik now now, calm down son! We are all friends here... lol
Although i'd like to see you against me race, see if the Derv is left behind then.... lol only joking
