I wouldnt even think of doin 60 in 2nd!....wouldnt make sense either as there will be fuk all power there....change gear earlier and your back in the zone!

Its down to the gearing though...

I think mine does about 55 (indicated) before needing to change up. You'd need to rev to around 6K to get to 60 in 2nd.

from memory it was around 4800-4900 rpm, but i wouldnt recommend it. I only tried it as i was testing 0-60 and 0-100 runs and wanted to see what it could do. I also think that is what set things down hill as my turbo started to make strange noises and in a few weeks later i had to replace it.

As with the diesels anything more than 4500 is pointless in terms of power and gearing. i just did things to test the car out

wont be getting it remapped again as i dont wanna risk any further problems with only a few months left on warrenty, but will be putting in my tuning box again (if i can find it !)

On trackdays, I always take mine to 4800 RPM, doubt it the turbo under any extra stress, it just gets a little hotter.

My engine is still as peachy as ever... (touch wood)

An Ibiza TDI Will NOT do 60 in 2nd FACT.

The final drive ration will be
I - 2.955
II - 2.407 (the ibiza has two lay shafts)

Gear ratios

I. 3.769 (I)
II. 2.087 (I)
III. 1.324 (I)
IV. 0.911 (I)
V. 0.902 (II)
VI. 0.756 (II)
R 4.459 (II)

Final reduction ration will be the product of the two

Gear Ratio Fin Driv v(mph)@1000rpm v(mph)@4500 rpm
I. 11.14 (I) 6 28
II. 6.16 (I) 11 51
III. 3.91 (I) 18 80
IV. 2.69 (I) 26 116
V. 2.17 (II) 32 144
VI. 1.82 (II) 38 177
R 10.73 (II) 6 29

So in 2nd at 1k revs the car is doing 11.5mph so to get to 60 you will need to rev to 5.2k revs....

But with enough power to hit 4.5k in 6th the car should theoretically be doing 170mph! but mine couldnt get past 3.7k revs as not enough power

Cheers

dont understand any of that, appart from the final figures, how would it be possible to do 177mph, even the book only states 128 max ?

ill give it another go on the weekend and try to take some pics of the speedo, how acurate are the speedo's these days anyway?

That's a theoretical maximum based on gearing and engine RPM.
In practice in 6th the engine won't have enough grunt to push the car to that speed, overcoming wind resistance, tall gearing etc,

IIRC, the maximum speed of the PD130 TDI Sports was achieved in 5th.

Different matter with a remap of course ;)

Isnt the sport gearbox 6th gear rather long :) Im sure Ed worked out the theoretical top speed of 6th at near on 200mph!

I believe the FR TDi 6th is no where near as long, and its something like 156mph :(

most i even done when mine was mapped was around 120, but i doubt there would have been loads and loads left with fast pick up speeds that i was used to. it suited me as as did mostly sub 100 speeds.

reset mine to standard again now and put my tuning box back on which is supposed to give me 20-30 more, my model says 20bhp which is ok... for now

What sort of top speeds are people with remapped dervs getting?
Don't know, not something I'm going to try in the UK. Not worth risking my licence/job/etc for !
On holiday once in Europe, I passed 130mph on an autobahn until a very near miss with a pidgeon made me quickly realise how factors outside my control could mean game over, that and the fear of mechanical failure such as a blow-out...

Nah, it's not very often I go for top speed runs! Just get bored I suppose!

Think it was at around 4k rpm! Which, at 5K rpm would mean about 162.5mph!

Do you think it will do that speed if I gaffa tape all the nooks and crannies in the front end to improve areodynamics? :cartman:
