Hi all,

After much trying and researching of modding my 2.0 8V I have come to the conclusion that it is a waste of time! So after much thought and only 6 months of membership I have decided to buy a TDI Sport 130. I have searched websites and made lots of phone calls and fingers crossed may have my eyes on a bargain-ish!

I have seen a Mk4 2003 3dr TDI Sport 130, with 23,000 miles on the clock, Ovni yellow at a price of £6995. The garage is over a 100 miles away but is SEAT approved and have paid a deposit over the phone. The dealer has agreed a price of £5000 for mine so I need to finance the rest which works out at about £80 a month!

I am seeing it maybe Thursday or Saturday and is so new into the dealership they have no photos yet. Comparing it to others it has got a really low mileage for the price. What I wanted to know is:

1) I spend about £160 a month and to about 1000 miles a month - what will I save?

2) Will my insurance and tax go down?

3) There is another car same distance a grand cheaper but has 77,000 miles on clock - worth it or not?

Thanks in advance

So excited about the modding potential!

Matt

Insurance, tax and fuel will all work out cheaper, dunno if that will cover the £80 a month, but shud come close, but at the end of the day the 130 TDI is quicker than the 2.0 8v and is infinitely more tuneable, so you have a better motor to mod, its gotta be worth it! Go on take the plunge, you wont regret it! :D

Thanks guys,

Definitely going to see the TDI 130 on Thurs/Sat now! Any ideas on typical mods that can be done to the TDI 130 - thinking about getting a re-map firstly but bit worried about damaging the engine or something?

Typical mods will be a strut brace, green panel filter, rear spacers, FMIC, suspension and a remap. I dont think you'll suffer any problems with a remap if you go to a reputable place (Revo, Forge, BAS, P-Torque, CC, Jabba, the list is endless so have a search for peoples opinions and experiences)

you might want a strut brace or somthink similar first be4 the remap so you can handle the power better specially if it the same suspension as mine has... 30bhp on top of mine might be intresting lol my driving style must be like a rally drivers then max 400 miles to the tank lol i got just over 600 over two tanks the other week :(

Thanks all,

Think I will go out for a spin with ibiza 130 tdi as offered!

I have an arrangement with superchips as they messed up my old re-map and could cut a good deal - but I am getting the impression I shouldn't go with them! Advice needed?

I'd go with the lower mileage one, I know from experience that with high miles (especially on small cars like the Ibiza) it'll be difficult to sell and with be worth a lot less.
For reference, at the start of last year I sold my '03 TDI Sport privately (with lots of OE goodies like factory Xenons, rain sensing wipers, ESP, etc etc) with 80k on the clock and only just broke the £6k mark.
Even though the TDI engines will last for rocket miles if regularly serviced, not many people want to buy small hatchbacks with high miles.

In my personal opinion, for a remap I'd avoid Superchips, but go with one of the remappers active on here, probably Bell Autos, or with Upsolute (who I used for my Passat). Reason being - they all receive very good reports and are considerably cheaper than the likes of Revo / Custom Code.
The benefit the TDI has over the 2.0 8valve is a turbo, which means considerable gains are available quite easily, and relatively cheaply. I think there's more people on here with remaps than without!

Thats just their off the shelf stuff mate. Allards can get more bhp and still keep the car realiable better then anyone else in England, fact. I had an Ibiza PD160 Cupra running 265bhp peak two years ago and they are now tuning my Audi which is stuck at 327bhp at the moment due to clutch slip. New clutch and bigger turbo getting fitted hopefully in three to four months.:funk:
