Are you used to driving a turbo diesel? They tend to drive differently to petrol, as in, the turbo kicks in after a little while, so you have to time your gear changes correctly, I'm new to turbo diesels myself, and does take a while to get used to.

First gear is fairly useless to be honest, I have found that, second isn't to bad, third and forth have got the real grunt..

The escort could of been modified, just because something is standard looking doesn't mean it is.

It's funny, I had a Mark 5 Golf 1.9 Tdi before, and I remember that this had to be revved fairly hard...

Maybe its just me...after all, the car flies once going-effortless speed!

I came to the conclusion that the escort must have been modified in some way, bizarre!

hit-nail-head!

having had the misfortune of driving turbo diesels over the last 4 years i can indeed confirm this.
i dont know specifically about this engine but guess the turbo doesnt get going until around 2k revs, and your changing gear before you get to 3k.

try changing gear too early on a push bike and see how quickly (or not) you pick up speed.

Yeah, well the power doesnt really start kicking in to about 2000rpm and from what i've read seems to die at around 5000rpm, mine is new so haven't pushed mine much above 3000rpm as yet. First gear is jumpy, very, have to becareful pulling off at junctions, because once second the car is well not sluggish but you know what I mean, but put your foot down a bit hard and it's like having a wild dog on a leash.

A few questions,

I drive a Mark 2 Leon FR TDI 170. The question that nobody appears to be able to answer (and this includes the SEAT Dealership) how do you determine whether my car is actually the 170Bhp Version of the 2.0 TDi Engine?

In the boot there is a sticky label which details what appears to be an engine code, paint code etc. but no BHP version.

Finally, this Engine is supposedly fitted with a DPF Filter which differs this from the 140 bhp version, but where is this filter located?

Any answers anybody?

You have got a Seat Leon haven't you not a Cyatt Lion ? They were 2.0 tdi 170 but in the middle of the night small fairys came in a nicked 30 bhp. Look for wings around the badge on the grill :ban:

170 engines have BMNXXXXXX codes - see logbook/service book

The cursed DPF is in the front but under all the crap, bit like a o/s beer can with about 5 sensors coming out of it. then it goes into the exhaust cat etc. etc.
G/Box type is marked near the gear casingalond side the drive shafts, can't remeber if its NS or OS.

My Data (from Log book cannot find it on the car-any ideas?)

1P1 561 (googled this as per earlier comment)

Identification Letters: BMN LC9Z DA

So this would appear to point to a 2.0 TDI 170:p

How does mine compare with anybody else' mark 2 Leon TDI FR logbooks?

Plus where is the corresponding indentification tab on the car please?

But you must of known that anyway! I mean did you get the FR styling. i.e. Front bumber, rear diffuser, seats with FR on back, steering wheel, gearknob. Theres more chance of a calm astra driver than Seat putting in the wrong engine.

You should be able to tell with your eyes closed. The extra pull you feel over a 140 is def. noticable

I think guys you are being a little unfair here ("Just a Little") Not once has
M1_jdh mentioned the bodykit or lettering so i would assume that it definately is an FR. Also after you drive a car a little you can get used to the power, i know i did with my Mark 1. Whats the milage?

The fact that Seat can't answer his questions is a little alarming and getting no answer would fuel anybodies doubts. Having said that, i doubt that it is the wrong engine but it would appear difficult to prove that its not unless Tested.

Hardly mate!

1. As said before the engine code is on the sticker in the service book, and possibly the boot sticker, (not sure if this has options on.
2. chassis number will say.
3. Engine will have engine code stamped on it.

Can not believe this thread, what a laugh. I got my fr tdi about 2 weeks ago and had it up to 125 in fifth by the time it was up to 20 miles on the clock (company car...ragged from new and will be till it goes again).

I think you should have got a fiat panda the FR is for DRIVING

3000 revs

I thought that was the minimum to run it in ;-)

I did keep below 125 for the first two weeks though! On the motorway the only thing that's left me standing (for felt like it) was a A4 RS4.

It can't be driven slowly (otherwise you may as well go for the 140 and save yourself a few quid.

yeah, it will take a while to get moving in 1st/2nd, you really have to nail the changes.

At first the engine will take a bit of breaking in, so it wont be at its full potential. Mine's just gone past the 4.5k mark, and it's getting smoother and more responsive as it goes, but i must admit I don't push it very often (at the moment). Once it's fully bedded in you'll be much happier with it I'm sure - those Escorts will be small Burberry-esque marks in your rear view mirror :) Mmmmm......torque......

I have a 2007 seat leon fr 170 and i have noticed that i have seen some 07 plate seat leon fr driving round with an fr badge on the front and back is this someone putting it on there front bumper as well as the back? Or is it a different model because mine only has a fr badge on the back. Cheers
