My S3 is needing a new turbo!!!!!! Info needed

Hey, just bought an S3 225bhp last month and the turbo has just gone when i was on route to get it remapped!!! I know this is a seat website but just wondered if anyone has replaced there K04? An what sort of price they paid to get it fitted as i have been told you have to take the engine out to replace the K04??

Any info/prices anyone has would be great thanks

if you dont get a K04 cheap, and seeing you were on your way to get remapped, its a good opportunity to get an uprated unit.

How do you know your turbo has gone, what are the symptoms?

There are plenty of faults that may 'think' you into thin you have a 'broken' turbo.

That ebay K04 will go for about £250-300. Its only a £50 starting bid that has got a week left on it.

Oh and that particular K04 will not fit a 1.8T. It needs to be a 020/023 version.

K04 replacement.....£300 for turbo (on ebay) about the same again in labour charges too fit.

IHI turbo conversion, 7* that combined amount £4000-£4500

The symptoms were there was a loud screeching noise and the turbo just didnt pull at all, then blue smoke started come out of the exhaust!! Spoke to Jim at Star and left it there today and he has said sounds like 99% turbo. Its up there just now and he said he will have to take the engine out to fit it...going to buy a "new" (second hand) turbo tomorrow aswell hopefully! So hopefully be back soonish! Still gutted tho

As for the IHI comments, that was already considered but i wouldnt get my money back at all!! Had an IHI ibiza before and that was a pain in the butt to re-sell. Bets fun ive EVER had in a car tho

What sort of prices are you talking for Hybrid K04's etc??

JBS might help you with a hybrid K04, not cheap though probs £1200

Not sure mate, thats what he said? Said it would cost £500 to take engine out and fit...

Thats probably why, makes it worth his while then.

Quite a few of us have had the LCR K04 out, myself included. Takes about 4hrs and engine does not need to come out. Cost me £230 for the swap when i had my hybrid fitted. That included gaskets aswell.

Not sure how different the S3 layout is with the 4wd drivetrain but i wouldn't think it would be too much of a drama for specialists.

Ask them about a price quote for a 'mate' who has a hybrid K04 and is wanting it fitted to his LCR. If they say its the same engine out job run a mile.

Search for username Ryan S3 or Caney and give them a pm, they'll let you know if its an engine out job (S3/TT)

engine out job my arse! i went to TTS today and they were fitting a replacement K04 to a TT. the knackered old turbo was not pretty................ when it let go it fed its bearings to the engine!
