It's not directly stated as illegal - although the act of it breaches the peace laws between those hours.

Therefore, if someone wished to report you for having it - especially since they're not enabled from standard since whatever date - they can, and have legal grounds to do so.

But again, this is one of those things - it may be illegal, but you'll probably almost never get in trouble for it.

Unless your neighbours are scum.

It's a common sense issue, let us know if anyone gives you grief about it and we'll learn from your experience ;)

hold on, please correct me if im wrong but surely the alarm itself would be illegal in that case????

it is if it sounds for more than 30sec in any one go it is

dont ask me the finer rules and legislations of it - its all down to petty noise disturbance regulations why dont you ask the environmental health i'm sure they'd love to explain it ;)

Alarm Beeps

Tbh, I cannot see the "beeps" being illegal, I had a new Laserline alarm fitted to my old 'Prelly' in 2005, and the fitters never asked if i wanted the beeps aubible or not, or if it was illegal or not

I'll make a few calls, and see if i can find out for sure, one way or T'other..

I guess the only way to find out if the horn is used as the alarm sound is to set it off :-o if it is then obviously I'm not going to bother, as I have some very load horns fitted, and that could get really annoying after a while....

Most US cars use the horn to indicate that alarm has been set - that's definitely illegal in the UK. However, I don't think the alarm chirp is illegal, it's not exactly loud.

Ok I have some further info on this !!!

I spoke with an alarm fitting company, and they say, no the "chirps" are not illegal, to have sounding the area where there is a problem is the alarm sounding which is why all new alarms sold in the last few years can only sound for 45 secends then have to reset by law, and go through the cycle again, etc, etc, etc...

So there you have it, so providing the alrm isn't the main horn I'm going to get my "chirps" done shortly.

I was told something pretty much the same by a friend who's been an authorised Toad fitter for years now. ****** of a bloke, but he knows his stuff
