also i dont think my cambelts been changed for some reason as its not on any of the history up to 63,000 unless it was done by an independant garage and i dont know, all i have it they chaps word who i brought the car off, with no actual proof :/

would i garage be able to check it for me, or would they just say ok ok come on give me ur £ it knackerd

any help would be great thanks people

70 K is just an oil change so whatever you use oil, filter + labour is all that you should be charged
I was £100 with using Millers fullly synethitic oil
As for the timing belt..
The belt is maybe good for 120 K+ but...
There is a bearing somewhere in the system that fails and rubs through the timing belt causing a big bill

If I were you I'd get it checked soon. If the job was done correctly the water pump and pulleys would have been done also;)

Personally I wouldn't take a risk at 74k and NOT do the cam belt, it just isn't worth the risk of lunching your engine, IMO.

I've had a look in my service schedule booklet, (2002 LC 20VT) and it says at every 60K (90,km) check condition of cam toothed belt.

At every 120K (180km) Replace toothed cam belt petrol engines with 5 valves per cylinder.

It might be overkill, but theres no way I'd leave it till 120K, the one on my old Prelude vtec was knocking like a mad thing by 65K :-o

It's always better to do it sooner rather than later, so if in any doubt, get it done now.

Getting it done early might cost you a couple of hundred, tops.
Not getting it done and it failing has the potential to cost a huge amount of money!

Best to get all the kit and carboodle done at the same time while it's in bits, you don't want a tensioner failing 2 weeks after the belt's been done, and costing yet more money and time off the road, IMO.

The only prices I have is ...

Awesome GTI are doing a fixed price of £295 inc vat for the LCR not including the extra hydraulic tensioner that this model has ( this tensioner keeps the tension on the belt during gear changes)

Star Performance £350 inc vat for the whole job including the hydraulic tensioner.

I'm about to get this done through Star and am quite happy with the price.
As its been said its either £350 now or £1,500 + when the bearings fail and the belt splits and mashes your valves, pistons and liners

My local Seat dealership have quoted about 254 for a cambelt change including vat and parts... I still cant find a better price!
