If you mean you're trying to remove the connector rather than the MAF sensor itself, then you're right - there's a plastic tab underneath. Put pressure on the tab away from the main body of the MAF sensor, and the connector will slide off. It does take a bit of persistence, though! :)

Incidentally, if you're doing the dielectric grease thing, I strongly recommend you just try sliding it on and off a few times (without applying any grease) and see if that makes a difference to the engine's performance.

Personally, I'm no longer convinced that the grease has any effect. However, sliding the connector on and off a few times can sometimes transform the engine, and I suspect that this is what really has an effect when people are applying the grease, rather than the grease itself. I'm convinced that the connector is poor quality or badly designed (or both).

I only remember disconnecting the hose both sides, disconnect wiring and job done, replacement was the full unit....

just want to get the 5 pins away and back again - is this the same thing you described above or does it mean undoing those funny torx screws?

thx

edit: ah yeah same thing. the sensor sits inside the tube, im right in saying? so the connectors are just those 5 bits....

gotya.

To disconnect the cable from the MAF sensor, you don't need any tools and there's no screws to undo. It just takes a bit of groping around with your fingers until you find the plastic tab underneath.

Edit: If you can see 5 pins, then it sounds like you've already taken the connector off. Is that right? If so, I'm not sure why you want to go any further, unless you're actually trying to replace the MAF. Bear in mind that the MAF sensor itself is very delicate and easily contaminated.

when you say away...does that mean towards you, away from the tube?

the maf is the connector that sits on the left of the air filter box, its the plug that you see on the ribbed tube, to take it off hold back the small plastic piece in the middle of the plug, whilst pulling the plug away. Make sure you lift the plastic piece whilst pulling it at the same time. and ur pulling the plug towrds the wind screen. that should take the bi*ch off.

Nah not sure where I'm meant to be looking.

There's the engine cover and to the top right of that the big ribbed tube, on that a blob with some cables coming out, is that it? It only has one plastic peice to disconnect it but it's on top and I push it, there when it comes off it's a plug type thing with 4 holes. Guessing that's sometthing else?

Show me a computer and I'll be fine! Cars, no no.

Sounds like the right thing. four female connectors are the four holes then?

Yes!

That's the right thing then, my God wonders never cease!

On a side note, you can tell it was a man who came up with the naming convention for connectors can't you?
