I have a anoying dashboad squeek. Sounds like it a baby chook chirping (kind of like a tree creeking in the wind). Its from the centre of the dashboad in the window air vent area but its hard to tell. Anyone else had this and solve the problem?:help:

Mine can be a bit squeaky, especially when the plastics are cold, but it seems to right itself after the car and the dash has warmed up a little.
My steering wheel squeaks too - I have to adjust the reach + rake a little and re-clamp it most days :D

Get a torq screw to match all the dash screws and go around all the dash components and loosen them... then jiggle each piece of the lower dash, (drivers, centre, glovebox), then starting with the drivers side tighten all the driver lower dash, slighty pushing the dash away from the car (e.g. towards the door out of the car) then do the same to the passanger (glovebox) again pushing away from the centre console, then finally tighten the centre console piece.. dont do them very tight, just hand tight to pinch the panel to the metal bracket behind it...

I do this to mine every 6 months, stops all the dash noises, TDI are prone i found out, due to the TDI vibrations..

Next job, is to search and destroy the boot rattle...

My reaason of sourcing them, i have a car that is sound deadened twice all though the car including roof and floor, and rattles sound louder when there isnt much road noise coming thou....

I had the same problem with my 05 plate Leon FR. Does your dash sit slightly high on the passenger side as well?

Anyway, had it in the garage a few times... they found a loose air vent duct/pipe, tightened that up & sprayed everything with silicone grease. It was ok for a few days, but then back to square 1... squeeks & rattles just as before :(

Took it back in, this time they found some clamp thing on the passenger air bag had come adrift. They re-fitted that and all was good for another few days. But the squeaks & rattles came back.

I took it back to them & told them I don't want it back until it's fixed properly - it's doing my f**king head in!

They had the car in for 3 days & completely stripped out the dash. They found that some of the dash mounts were broken. They ordered new parts (same as what was factory fitted) but they didn't fit! They ordered a different type of mount to try which fitted, and turned out they were the ones that should have been fitted in the first place! They rebuilt the dash & it was completely squeak & rattle free after that.

Could be the same problem... lots of Leon owners have squeaks & rattles from the same place in the dash - and I can't see that fitting the wrong mounts in the factory would be a 'one off'.

It was a Leon FR 20VT, registered in March 2005 if that's any help.

I'm actually going back to the dealer soon as after 6 weeks of having the car they have actually sourced me my bootliner that was part of the sale.(They said as its an old model that Seat weren't producing them anymore) I'll ask them then. Its under warrenty so better them doing it than me.

Hi jonnie5,

Squeaks 'n' Rattles. Bizarrely thats how I came across this site. The noises in the cab were driving me loopy, thought the rear suspension was fooked and was hunting for some tech info.

Have a look in the main section of SEATCupra.net. where that nice chap andyb has written an article with loads of useful info regarding everything from paint problems to wheel off-set (SEAT Leon FAQ 2000-2005 - in Knowledge base section). It has a little section on Squeaks 'n' Rattles and there I found a solution to mine.

BTW I once owned a brand new VW Golf which after a few weeks sounded like it had a ball bearing under the bulk head rolling from one side to the other under harsh cornering. Took it back to the stealers and had a test drive with a big eared bald fella in a white coat (I kid you not). He immediately found another noise which I hadn't even registered before... typical...but not the one I came in for.

Anyway, could have sworn noise was middle of dash, etc., but on collecting car it turned out to be above my head. A loose bulb in the courtesy light fitting of all things. Never would've found that. So, are you sure noise is from the dash? If you are, an extremely common one is the dust cowl over the steering column as the plastics grate. Wedge something in it and have a test drive, you never know... FYI I have some black foam pizza base wedged in mine... Works beautifully...
