Aftternoon all.

Got my car over the weekend, and got some vouchers etc to spend so was going to inprove the rather poor speaker set up.

Just wondered what people had installed in their cars. im not wanting to go over board, ive got just shy of £400 worth of vouchers so spend most of that. ive settled on a head unit, in the form of an alpine one i can connect to my I-Pod.

I just wondered what speakers people recommend. thinking of something with a decent tweeter that will fit in the normal housings, so it still looks standard.

As always your help is appreciated.

where r you planning on fitting your head unit?, Forget the rear speakers and just run fronts off and amp like the geeza said above.....maybe add a sub in the boot at a later date.

JL Audio make some great front speakers. I had some fitted in the front of my last car, @ £300 they wernt exactly cheap but sounded fantastic.

Where are you vouchers for tho? I dont think Halfrauds sell JL as I got them from a speacialist.

Where abouts in B-Stoke you from? Im just up the rd in Tadley

I think people have to remember there are lots of factors that will alter the sound. Installation for example, position of the mid base and tweeters would make a huge difference from one set to another. Also if they are amped, if they are running active etc

Lots of variables to consider ;)

I have Rainbow components up the front, and have disconnected the back speakers. The speakers obviously replace the original ones in the door, but replaced the tweeters with some ones on the A pillars (mounted like gauges).

Run off the standard head unit - amped with a sub. Sounds awesome. I think the speakers were about £200 ish

I'm in chineham mate, have a few mates in tadley, and my mrs lives there too. im up there most weekends, and often at the treacle mine as my mates mum owns the pub.

Ive got £400 in total. £250 odd of that will go on the head unit. So ive got more like £150 for front speakers. I've already got a sub and also and amp. so dont need worry about those.
I had a full JBL system before in my old car and was happy with that. just something that is clear, i dont have the volume up silly hights, like the sound of my car too much. but want something that if a good tune comes on, i can crank it up a little and its not going to sound shite. if you put the current speakers up to 22 in the beeza, they sounds AWEFUL !!

I presently have some Infinitys, were about £80 IIRC not a bad buy but obviously the more you have to spend the better speakers you can get (in theory)

I got 6.5" MTX Thunder Components up front which i'll be amping up very soon. Decent sound straight off the head unit but ideally need to be amped.

Question: What kind of music do you listen to mostly?

That should then help you choose your speakers.
For example if its rock type stuff, then go for the likes of infinity's.

But then they aren't the best for Dance music.

Out of the money you have, budget also for as much sound deadening as you can, this stuff really makes a difference.
