yes.. personally i prefere the clean white version seen in that mag some 3 years ago.. o and i dont like chrome and fairy lights.. but the actuall supercharger side of things i do like :headhurt:

i'm going to hopefully supercharge mine during the summer, thats the plan anyway, a guy on edition38 called N7NDO (fernando) supercharged a 2.0l ABF lump, dunno what break hes got.

You can use either the Eaton m45 (Old mini cooper S) or m62 (Merc Kompressor) chargers, i plan to use the m45 as you can have toothed pullies and belts on them, meaning more boost than an m62, but the m62 displaces more air. Part of the reason i'm gna do it is the sound, they sound amazing :D

need to space out the head though, to lower the compression ratio, (the thickness of 2 head gaskets apparently) the charger, intercooler, piping, move the radiator, Remappable ECU (i'm going for megasquirt) and a couple of other bits.

Chris, i read up alot about which charger to go for when i had my golf valver, which is the same ABF lump as the Ibiza and was looking at either the M45 or the M62

they state the M45 is the right size from a 1.6 - 2.5 ltr engine, but as the ibiza is a 2.0 engine it will already be running close to its maximum threshold

I would recommend the M62 as it will be well within its capacity. The M62 is quoted for 3.0 - 5.0 litre engines, and as the Ibiza fits comfortably within this margin (if not below), it will be better for boost limits and also will not be straining the kompressor

also as the M62 is bigger, it can flow more air and more power can be extracted

this is what I read from the mini forums over in the US and also the mercedes ones

You make superchargin sound so easy, or is there alot more 2 it? Been lookin at the mini copper s chargers and there good prices i think

lol far from it mate, its just what i read up, but it took sometime getting the info

the m45 chargers, which are what is used on the minis IMO are too small to then be fitted to a 2.0 ltr engine, as the mini's are of course a 1.6 ltr engine

the increase of 0.4 ltr's is more than enough justification for a bigger charger to be fitted (this is what i read over on the US forums) ok, so we dont need to believe everything the yanks say, but the results and what they had achieved over there were pretty good with the larger style chargers (M62 variant)

also as mentioned the m45 charger on a 2.0 engine is running pretty close to the limit, and could restrict boost limits for what is of course a bigger engine and has the capability to run alot more power...therefore if the larger engine has the capability to run higher power, then a bigger charger IMO is required to enable the extra power

o rite, im with ya now. do you no whats actually involved in a supercharger conversion then?

your best place to look and ask is a site called www.clubgti.com

there are alot of dubbers on that site who have a massive wealth of knowledge and there was one guy who did a step by step guide of when he SC his valver

join up and ask....recommend doing a search first though

cheerz buddy been a massive help! one last question and it mite sound completly dumb but surly you need a hole in the head or block? not sure tho lol

no the SC or mercedes kompressor (M45 or M62) are belt driven, so basically one end of the SC sits in between the belt (cambelt i believe) and when of course you accelerate, the belt spins up, which in turn spins up the SC and creates boost = power!

yes as ibiza 95 said, new manifold is required of course for different flow rates the SC is now creating

SC is the easiest way to create and introduce instant power to the engine as everything is housed within the SC, as with turbo's you need oil feeds which can be a headache as you need something to draw in and take away the oil....therefore requiring extra bits in the engine, where to mount and house them, but none of this is needed as this is all contained within the SC

custom brackets mate. I'm going to ace cafe next week and meeting up with fernando whose gna tlk me through it. you can get around 240bhp - 260bhp with an m62 i think.

He also said he thought about the m45 charger at first, but used the m62 as it displaced more air, quite alot. So now i'm looking for a wrecked merc, or i might steal my dads charger.

the m45s are around £120ish on fleabay, the m62s can be a bit more pricey

yeh i was gna eaton the G that i was gna buy, but the guy blew up the G so i didnt buy it. it's an addictive sound the eaton sound :D:D:D:D:D:D

ok? when i look at either the m62 or m45 they both have holes in the back of them, where does it bolt 2?

bolting and mounting them is the only issue, but this is where some fabrication will possibly be required, as I think the M62 is mounted where the starter motors sits, or around that area, as of course the charger has to sit within the belt, so when it spins, it also has contact with the charger and spins it up as well

alot of people have gone for the eaton charger, as the g lader's are very expensive to recondition

for the price to recondition a g lader, you can almost get yourself a brand new M62 charger, or at least a low mileage one of a merc

I have heard of 300bhp from the M62's, its certianly possible. Look at the power the mercs put out with the M62's, and of course these will be very conservative figures as Mercs want their engines and components to be reliability and have a long life

yeah i mean if you look across the clubgti forums, the SC golfs, with the old g lader setups only normally run about 200bhp...not sure what jabbasport quote, but isnt the g lader stage 3 setup about 200bhp?

i would strongly advise an M62 mate, think you will just be disappointed with the M45 and wont be able to run the type of power you want, which i am judging is about 250bhp?

this would be well beyond the m45's capabilities, and if not, it would be right on its physical limit

next headache is cutting and mounting the bumper and then making up the pipework for the FMIC

better if you get the fabricted pipework so the air flow is alot smoother, as if its made up with alot of samco and alloy tubes it can distort the air, although will still work well for what you want
