How all this was worked out....

Power and torque figures are based on a Stage 1 remap of an otherwise standard car. They were worked out by taking an average of what Revo and Custom Code advertise after a Stage 1 remap for that model. Standard figures are as quoted for each car by Seat and other online sources.

Fuel usage and economy figures were taken from a poll for information from SC.net members in the Leon MK1 forum. The average was taken to create the MPG figure for both standard and modified versions of each model.
I then worked out the miles per tank by working out what the average MPG figure would give based on 50litres of fuel usage (I hope my maths is right...). I chose this figure as I believe it is more relevant than working it out on a full 55 litre tank, as not everybody runs their car to dry every time. It's a more 'real world' figure in my opinion. Please note - all figures are rounded up or down to the nearest 5 miles.

Fuel prices were taken from the website www.fuelprices.com and are correct at the time this thread and information was created. Please visit that website for the latest prices.

Insurance prices are based on a 27 year old male with full NCB living in a rual area. The prices were kindly provided by Greenlight Insurance and are for comparison and are only to be used as a guide.

Currently there are no servicing costs. I have approached Seat UK for a price guide to servicing but as yet I have not got this information. As soon as this information is available it will be added. If anybody has an idea as to how else we can get this information, please let me know.

Tyre prices are based on a standard tyre in the standard size. Prices are taken from www.mytyres.co.uk and are correct at the time this was made.

If there are any errors or omissions please let me know. And if anybody can help to get the service prices, please shout!

For the service costs, would this be the average main dealer cost, average VAG specialist cost, or an average of both?

p.s. Might have to try green light insurance come renewal time... I'm 27, living in a rural area, 3 expired speeding points (5 years in june) & full NCD and the cheapest I found was twice that, even with a huge discount by adding my sister as a named driver!

Then I thought it would be worth finding a dealer in the midlands for a price guide, but who has the time to speak to them to get 10 service prices for 4 different car models?

So I really am open to ideas.

That's the plan! Incidentally, Seat UK finally got back to me with the servicing prices... for the Mk2 Leon So I asked for the same sort of info for the Mk1 Leon, and they said they didn't have that sort of information.

The head office of a car company couldn't tell me how much they charge for servicing. Excellent.

Mine is an 05 fr tdi it has colour coded folding electric mirrorsas standard, and i have recently put 2 bridgstone potenza tyres on at a cost of just over £220 fitted balanced... so i think the estimate of£80 something is a little low, the 20 000 mile service at a dealers including the brake fluid change was gulp £320 l including vat...
mine certainly does around 550 to the tank mainly around town with one or 2 20 or 30 mile motorway trips included..certainly achieves high 400 miles just around town... oh i think the red line is a little high on the fr tdi mine starts at 4800 rpm

FastBaz... as above, the tyre prices were taken from the same website as many members use, so if you paid more than that, more fool you I'm afraid. In fact, £220 fitted for 17's is an extortionate price... I, and many others, paid less than that for two 18" Eagle F1 GSD3's, so I'm afraid you paid WELL over the odds there.

I've been trying desperately mate, but the only option I have left now is to phone a few garages and ask them for servicing costs for all services for every one of the four Leon models listed. And that takes time I simply do not have. Plus garages are reluctant to spend that sort of time on something that's not going to earn them a penny!

Seat UK sent me a pricing disc full of part numbers, services and prices.... for the Mk2 Leon! So that was useless. I got back in touch and asked if they had the same thing for the Mk1 Leon, but they said they didn't and couldn't help.

I've contacted a local Seat garage and asked them for this info, but they never got back to me.

So that's how it's been left. At the moment, with mortgages, houses and trying to sell my Leon, I've not been able to commit the time to it.

If you want to go ahead and get the info yourself, please do. You may have more ideas or more luck than me!

But the idea was to base it on standard, Seat dealer prices and standard, OE replacement kit. That's why the tyres are based on factory direct replacements. This was because independent garages are almost always cheaper than Seat dealers, and the prices between independents varies a lot, so basing it on one independent defeats the point of a single reference point like this as not everybody can make it to that one garage. Basing it on Seat prices makes it fair and even, and some people will only ever have their car serviced by seat to keep the FSSH.

The idea originally was for somebody in the north, somebody in the south and somebody in the midlands to contact a local Seat dealer and ask for the prices for 10-100k services for each of the four models and then I was going to take an average. But nobody else offered with that, so I took it upon myself to do it..... but failed.
