As stated in the title i have an idiling issue think i have found the reason but not too sure just want anyones previous encounters or knowledge

To start off the car is a 2.0 16v Cupra with ABF engine there is a unit just behind the drivers side headlight and tucked slightly in to the wing, which is held in with 2 rubber holders the unit feeds into the throttle body the top fatter vacum hose. and the other end of this unit goes into a catch tank looking air box just infront of the drivers side from wheel.

If i have it set up as standard wont idle but if i take the unit out it runs fine

Its made by Siemens and the part code is 023 906 283

Anyone know wats its called or how much i will be looking at?

Thanks in advance

Dom

thats your charcoal canister mate ;)

EDIT: And a bit of further reading...
Definition: A storage device in the evaporative emissions control system. It is a small cylindrical or rectangular container that contains activated charcoal particles. The charcoal traps gasoline vapors from the fuel tank (and carburetor on older vehicles). Later, the vapors are purged and drawn into the engine when the vehicle is being driven

I worked it out wen i realised the car would not run unless i had my foot on the throttle so i decided to play around with the vacum hoses the little ones first and nothing happened so took the big one off it ran ok, it does idle high after the car has warmed up but will run on its own.

Followed this vacum hose to the carbon filter valve did a couple of tests the unit was dead so ordered new one from GSF and came to £58. Got an oil filter breather from halfords my mate had lying around on the end of the vac hose at the moment untill i pick my part up this afternoon
