My secondary water pump went off recently and I think its quite a common problem. I noticed that I could not hear it after I turned off the ignition.
For those who don't know, its an electric pump located near the radiator on the drivers side. The problem with mine was a loose connection that was solved by bending the connector to ensure good contact. When I did this the RPM of the pump was higher than ever before.

So always listen for the pump as its easy to hear. If you don't it could be of for months and lead to premature turbo damage.
It may even be worthwhile checking the connector by wiggling it when the pump is running.

I've also noticed recently that my electric water pump has been silent, but only intermittantly. I've tried testing the feeds to the pump, but it seems to be always a very low voltage that's unchanging...
Could some one enlighten me as to whether this pump is ECU controlled?? I want to be sure that the supply is good to the pump before I go ahead with replacing it.

really? under the battery?
i've been hunting for a wiring diagram for the car, but not had a lot of joy really. Considering just taking the plunge and buying a new pump now, as it's probably going to end up being that, and i'm now getting a little concerned about it not working and the problems that will potentially cause...

I know there were differences with the VR6's in that some run everytime you turn the ignition off, and some would only run over a certain temp. Might be worth looking to make sure its not the case with the 1.8T too.

LCR pump will run regardless of engine temperature after switch-off.
