Anyone experienced this??

Just recently I've noticed that there is a fan coming on quite soon after I start my car. This seems to draw quite a bit of power from the engine as the car revs slightly higher to accomodate this. This is not the AC one and have had the car since new (2003) and has never done this before. It should not be an engine cooling fan as when it comes on the car is not up to temp yet.
I do have a dodgey coolant level sensor, could this have something to do with it??
I've had this dodgey sensor for a while (3 months) and the fan has just started doing this

Any help would be appreciated

Have not had a chance to see what fan it is but it sounds like it is. Do you suspect something?

You sure your air con is not left on? as they switch it on automaticaly to prevent overheating

The first thing to do is change the sensor. They can get progressively worse as time goes on, so the fact this is a new problem (fans I mean) isn't entirely surprising.

Aye you could be right. Untill I change this it might be a waste of time. Looks like I'll need to change this before i proceed, cheers for your help.
I'll double check tht the AC is not on too and monitor which fan is coming on

Have just checked and its both of the big front ones behind the radiator

That definitely sounds wrong. I'd be sure it's the temp sensor tricking the fans into thinking they have work to do to cool the engine down.

They only kick in for about 20 secs then they switch off

That's also fairly normal, they don't stay on constantly. They turn on, give a good blast and then settle down. You can hear them doing it if you get caught in traffic on a hot day.

Aye thats fair enough, will get this sensor changed though. do you know if its a self fix or a garage job?

i would say your fans are fubared as i have had my temp sensore changed and mine still do this and my temp gauge also goes over 90 every 10-15 mins of driving or sat in traffic i then have to turn the air con on to get those big fans to kick in to cool it down. Sometimes the fans dont kick in at all and i think this is *** the small fan is buggered so the big fans kick in more often. I dont know how much it costs but have heard its expensive

Can you give me any info on changing this sensor?

mine was doing the exact same thing, coolant warning light was also coming on and beeping when i started it up each morn. (coolant level was fine) I recently had water pump and cam belt changed and both have stopped happening since it was done.

mine just comes on and off, no heating issues im aware of or any other probs hmmm
