OK, bear with me....

I have been to Seat today about the now "Had a ****in Guts full" squeaking noise coming form the front breaks.

They are having the car to look at an agree the noise is bad but "Seat are funny on Warranty with Brakes"

[:@]

Anyway they said they would strip the front brakes and check them out, if there were no faults other than wear and tear they would have to charge me £30 for the labor, anyway I said yes as I am sick of the breaks squealing every time I hit the pedal and squeaking when I turn without even touching the pedal!

I am waiting there whilst the work is done and they even said I can watch and they will tell me straight away if they can be sorted under Warranty or not, they also said they would charge around another £30 to service the breaks (skim the disks, copper grease the back of the pads, contacts etc) if not Warranty so I am waiting to see if this sorts my problem.

If not I have 2 choices

1. Sell the car
2. Upgrade the disks and pads on the front

Don't want to sell the car so would like to know if there is a recommended brake upgrade for the FR TDI that isn't silly money please?

How much do you want to spend, if you have to?

You can fit the Brembos from the LCR. I think Bill @ Badger 5 can supply the kit. He can also supply a few other options to upgrade the discs keeping the standard callipers and disc size, which will of course be a lot cheaper.

Basically it comes down to money. At one end of the scale you have new discs and pads... in the middle you have the Brembos... at the top end, well, take your pick! 10 pot AP Racing would be nice ;)

Just want to replace the Disks and Pads but not with the crap that Seat use, this will be in my price range, plus I don't mind spending more than a OEM setup as long as they ain't gonna squeal ;)

How much is the Breambo Kit by the way, didn't know this would fit the FR TDI due to wheel clearance..

Wheel clearance is an issue, but not one that can't be overcome. Not sure on price though.

Direct replacement discs and pads are easy enough to source. Bill is a good person to speak to as he stocks a few good options and knows his stuff.

I had same problem...garage cleaned it up for me free of charge and it went away but came back. I think its the brake pads they use, very hard compound.

If your going to get a revo then your going to have to get a brake upgrade anyway. Do the 312m conversion. All in it cost me around £350...

See from your sig that you have got...
312mm ATE Power Discs w/ Ferodo DS2500s pads
Did you have to change the callipers with those or was it just a disk swap and new pads?
Also did they fit OK behind the FR alloys, how are you finding them?

You dont have to change the calipers only the caliper carriers that hold the bigger discs. Once you got the caliper carrier its not hard to do.

what you need is:

312mm Audi S3/TT discs
312mm Caliper carrier - Golf mk4 or Audi TT
Pads

The brakes are far more powerful than the standard ones. They are more than adequate for a remap tdi aswell. They fit brilliantly round the standard FR alloys, they fill it up nicely.

You can actually pick up carriers from a breakers yard, IIRC i paid about 120 for a set of calipers and carriers - didn't fancy paying the SEAT price of £90 each for the carriers when they can be cleaned up easily enough :)

Let us know how you get on Ash

I will, they are doing it this Friday at 13:30 so need to give it at least a week to see if they have indeed sorted it (who knows maybee they will find an issue that will be covered under warranty) if not then the credit card is gonna have a bashing doing as jonjay said

Ferodo DS2500s pads

So that will be £350 plus paying someone to fit them, so may as well round that upto £1000 and get her Revo'd at the same time LOL :runaway:
