the winter has been hard, the alloys have baked on brake dust that looks like the underside of an old cast iron pot.the front bumper has some very very embedded grime/tar/stones (i think).the bumper is pitted to fook basically.this i can only think will need a respray.the usual tar spots are a plenty.
the rub strips are stippled, not smooth, and they are full of gunk,i can get them back to black with a variety of things, but what i really want to do is remove all that gunk out of the stippled bits.
i dug out my clay bar tonight(it was thrown in the corner of the shed some years back as "only useful for hanging posters").
so with a large slice of humble pie infront of me,any advice?
particularly how to use the said bar of clay.i have read wahat to use it with solution wise, but how do i apply it?dab it on/off .

cheers.
the silver seats i can sort in my sleep. nothing but a steam clean will get them back to looking good.

jase if you have 35 quid invest in a rotary (remember I recommended the silver line one, orange or blue model) takes half the work out of your arms.

If you do get a rotary pollisher be carefull as you can do a fair bit of damage if you don't know what your doing, better/safer with an orbital.

and another 150 to 200 quid more out of pocket.
As mentioned before, a pc is a soft option compared to the more agressive and better performing rotary.

putting polish on or off isn't the issue, getting the **** off alloys and how to actually use a clay bar were my questions guys ;)

fibreglass pen will get the black crud and tar off the alloy matey, super resin polish (autoglym) removed the little bits of tar round the wheel arches on the paintwork when rubbed in.

I mistakenly read that as "I want to love my mrs again"...mind you maybe some clay bar action could do the job there as well...

Get some proper wheel cleaner as well.
Halfrauds do the Meguies stuff which will get the wheels looking good after a soak in that.

Also a steam clean for the seats??Care to elaberate on that one for me please as the VAX was i used today was good but needs doing over on the drivers seat

using neat virosol on the rims isn't hitting the corners much.
steamer is a bit of a munrel, wallpaper stripper thingy ;)

Meguiar's Wheel Brightener is the best stuff I've ever used on wheels and will bring them up a treat. One of those soft brushes they give you with a bottle of Wonder Wheels to work it into the corners and you're sorted.

Just don't leave it on the wheels for too long, drink it, inhale the fumes or get within a couple of postcodes of it when the lid's off and you'll be fine. :)

well it clearly needs a polisher on it,and starting from scratch(pun intended).
clay has made it look much better and a polish has just highlightened the swirls and stone chips(probably about 30 ).
front bumper is FUBAR,nothing but a respray is going to sort the chips and cracks in it,and 2 kerb scuffs.
i think just keeping it clean is going to be the best i can get fom the vrs now.
paint condition though is very good with very little orang peal effect.
finished at 1400,the mrs jumped straight in the car and sped off just as i was looking for my autosol to do the tail pipes. :(
mind you the exhaust is blowing like a mother,so probably not worth the effort.

quote me happy on a new one sarah.
you know you're just being nice to me to get me to part with my money ;)
