ha admitting defeat before the projects even started!
i duuno what engineerings come to these days, have one look ,if it looks to hard then it gets the bin job
its called don't fix it if it ain't broken, i cannot see the point of this conversion at all.
The fabrication for the transmission tunnel alone will be way too much work. Also we are talking about an S3 running gear, its not really the proper full on 4wd system you are thinking it is,. You really want a proper quattro system off the S4 instead of the pansy Haldex system.
why not go buy a mk3 Ibiza and whack 4wd in that, now that would be engineering and would be a genuine challenge for an uber engineer like yourself.
But where ever there is a off the shelf solution go that way. its like all the boys who spend 5 grand modding there Mini Coopers to 160bhp, when all they needed to do was trade there own car in then buy a cooper S for just a couple of grand more.
but hey if you do decided to do this, then post up cos i'm sure we'll all enjoy reading and viewing. i think if it was a TV program they call that type of viewing car-crash TV if you pardon the pun. or another way of terming it is "WTF is he doing that for.....lol"
ALREADY HAVE DONE A MK3 IBIZA IN 4WD

the mysterious car....
anyway
4WD/RWD conversions on cars worth naff all with plentiful spare shells kicking about - that makes sense
Not on a car with value left in it.
not mysterious when its at home in my garrage
they were posted up at the start of the week and last year
SO.... anyone want s3 rear running gear? lol offers.

vr6 and r32 are rather different things matey
vr6 has been done in mk1 golfs a fair few times
there was a mk1 in PVW a while back with scooby engine and 4wd running gear
Ok if you want to be picky, but you get what I was talking about.
I can imagine that it has been done before, but what about in a soft top golf mk1?
All done up proper old skool, but secretly a demon underneath.
Not quite a soft top, but if you want to see what a guy is doing with his mk2 golf (Leon Cupra engine, complete refurb project, new suspension etc) then there is an excellent thread of his progress here at the OCUK forums.
